2006 fiesta. Front wipers . Intermittent and slow wipe don't work , fast speed does ?.

Hi think you need a new motor as the control module is built into the wiper motor

The common way of controlling wiper speed is to use a 'tapped' resistor that supplies reduced voltage to the wiper motor on all but the fast setting.
They have to dissipate a good bit of heat and are subject to failure; I think yours has done that.

Somehow the rheostat has burnt out--will have to remove & replace--probably a garage job.

What would cause the windshield wipers on my recently purchased Jeep Patriot Sport work on every speed except the high speed. High speed doesn't work at all.

The intermittent switch has a bad contact in it for the high speed, i would say, most likely will have to replace it.
