My 1996 grand cherakee lardo grans the battery when its off.

my guess, the Battery drains dead, parked. ?
ok there are only 2 causes.
1: as always bad batteries can do that.... (i use test battery from on other car, unless new $125 batteries are cheap to you.
or charge IT , and and use my load tester.

if car battery drains driving, check the charging system.
but you said parked, which means keys in pocket.

You can find instructions for doing this in any half decent manual. One thing they usually don't tell you is when removing the large axle nut on the end, it helps to put a spare tire on with no center cap and with the vehicle on the ground, break that nut free before starting the job. without air tools, it's next to impossible to remove it when jacked up.
