No different from any other oil change, just reset the oil life on the dash if it has one which i believe it does. The oil grade is 5W-30 on the turbo engines and 10W-30 on the non turbo engines. If you like you can go with the synthetic oil which will give you up to 25,000 miles or 1 year before service, but you do have to replace the oil filter every 5,000 to 7,000 mile and top off the synthetic oil which in the long run be cheaper then changing the oil and filter every 5,000 miles or six months for turbo and 3,000 to 4 months for non turbo engines. Good luck and hope this helps.

NOT SURE WHY SOMEONE TOLD YOU THIS? BUT YOU HAVE A RANGE FOR YOUR TIMING HAVE TO CHECK SPECS BUT THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH GASOLINE GRADE YOUR HEARING KNOCKING YOUR VALVES COULD BE GETTING SMUDGED AND GUNKED UP I RECOMMEND CHANGING OIL RUNNING A BOTTLE OF LUCAS OIL STABILIZER WITH OIL REPLACES ONE QUART ALSO LUCAS FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER 3OZ TO EVERY TEN GALLONS OF GAS YOU CAN DO THIS WITH 87 GRADE KEEP TIRES INFLATED PROPERLY FRONT END ALIGNMENT PROPER OIL THESE ARE ALL FUEL SAVING TECHNIQUES THAT WORK!

2000 VW new Beetle uses a lot of oil, but has no leaks, oil fouls sparkplugs

Do you have the turbo model? If so you could have a bad turbo. You may also have bad valve seals or piston rings. If you have a turbo you can remove the hose or pipe off of the outlet side of your turbo between the turbo and the intake manifold. If there is oil in it your turbo is leaking and will need repaired.

You cant be telling folks that it is gear oil on the rodeos tranny. That suggest 80 90w which will kill. Its Dexron III. You need to correct that.

there are different types of fluids go in that vehicle
the transmission takes ATF
the transfer case for the 4x4 take engine oil ( depend on where you live it take different grades )
the differential takes GL5 also depend on the temperature of your region, it will need different grades.
hope this will explain the confusion

Just doing an oil change, what grade of oil needed

handbook recommends 5w30. I personally use 10W30. It leaves a better film on the pistons so when you start up the engine there isnt a knock. 5W30 makes a small ticking sound when you first start up but then goes away. If you want a brand recommendation I recommend Castrol GTX or Motorcraft

What type and grade engine oil do i use

Use 5w30 oil in this car, preferably a synthetic. The manufacturer recommends this grade of oil and it needs to be changed every 3000 miles.
