My 1997 Landrover Discovery AC problem is that the system has been checked over and recharged (it was low, not empty) and works ice cold at idle (it's a diesel). However when you rev the engine the compressor stops spinning. It does this more or less from AC switch-on so I don't think it's any kind of thermal load thing on the compressor as it has only just started running. I thought at first it might be some kind of high-pressure switch thing but it did it when the system was half full and it does it when you just blip the throttle even before the engine has revved by any appreicable amount and presumably therefore still short of peak pressure? Meanwhile, if you press the accelerator slowly it can sometimes stay spinning well above idle. Therefore if it's not a pressure switch I'm wondering if it's a compressor clutch slipping problem? My AC recharge guy says his brother had a Focus with the same problem and he took a shim out of the clutch to put the magnets closer to the pulley (may have misunderstood that bit) and the car was fine afterwards. Any ideas? Pete Crespin

I know on some cars that they do, or did incorporate an AC cut-off point when accelerating, as a safety feature, when passing, to allow for maximum horsepower at wide open throttle, due to fact that vehicle was basically underpowered, thus allowing you to have full power until you were back at cruising speed. Maybe with a little research, you'll find same situation with yours.

Suggested Solution 2002 Land Rover Discovery Series II Logo Problem with 2002 Discovery Series II Starts fine when cold, after running dies on idle then wont start 2002 land rover discovery, starts fine...

The ignition system is controlled by the ECM. Check power at fuse box in on right side under dash. Check fuses right side engine compartmentlower dash panel if all OK check power to ECM located right side "A" pillar in alloy box. this unit could be faulty if no spark at coils, assuming they have been connected correctly. may have to get tested for codes at L/R dealer or someone with test tool. Another source of problem may well be flat battery in transponder key. The indicator light on the dash willflash rapidly for 10 seconds if the vehicle has been unlocked with the remote and the drivers door is opened if the battery in remote is getting low

2003 Lincoln LS hot air while stopped cold while driving

Hello
Based on what you have said and my 30 years a Ford dealer tech I believe you have a slightly low AC system refrigerant charge due to a small leak at the AC compressor or the AC line connections. I would have a shop hook up a set of gauges to monitor the pressures at idle and see just how low it is. DO NOT ADD UNTIL YOU KNOW HOW MUCH IS NEEDED, YOU CAN LOCK UP THE COMPRESSOR.

Where is the idle air flow control at on a 1997 landrover 4.0 engine

It is on the outside of the throttle body on the engine intake manifold. Go to the dealer and ask them to print a picture of the part from the parts book.

My Ac doesnt really blow that cold.I have tried recharging it and it started to click. DOes that mean its full, over full, or just the compressor going on and off? What? I want it to be cold. I did add...

Check the system, the compressor may be bad or there are leaks which is adding to the engine's load as shown by the low revolution. IT is also possible that the engine is not compensating its idling when the AC is on, the Idle Air Control Valve may be dirty or faulty especially if there is rough idling.

Defroster and heater blow cold air when idling and warm, not hot, when driving. ac does not blow as cold as it should. Temperature, not air volume is the issue.

Check your radiator fluid level. This almost always the case. AC system needs to be recharged. You can get a can of recharge at local autparts store for 25$ approximatley that comes with the gauge. Charge the system while the vehicle is running and ac is on.

1997 Dodge Caravan puts out warm air

Your car uses R-134A, readily available at most auto parts stores. Best bet is to get a refill kit that includes the refill hose (get one with a pressure gauge attached if possible to ensure you don't overfill the system). Recharging is pretty straight forward. Turn the car on with the AC on HIGH, locate the low side AC line (will have a screw on cap). Attach the refrigerant to the hose but don't puncture the can until the other end of the hose is attached to the low side valve. Once both ends are attached, turn the screw on the hose to puncture the can of refrigerant; the car should suction the refrigerant out of the can. Disconnect the hose when the can's empty and check the vents on the AC. If its cold and frost develops on the AC lines under the hood, you're good to go. Best of luck and post back with any questions.

Landrover discovery fuel pump

Has it got power to the pump, if it has then the pump has gone, if not then check the in-line fuse in the fuse box.
