Is the fuel pump turning on? If you don't hear it turn on try banging the actual tank with a rubber mallet while someone tries turning the key. If it it does turn on, it's definitely your fuel pump. I can walk you through changing it if it comes to that

Try a new fuel filter. If that doesn't help, check the fuel pressure--may be a plugged intake sock filter inside the fuel tank.

SOURCE: truck will not start on

Fuel pressure is critical for vortec motors. Most of them require a minimum of 55psi at the rail for the engine to start properly. I worked at a GM dealer and I remember it being a common problem. Change your filter on a regular basis. If the fuel pressure checks out then either the injector is bad or there is no injector pulse. Use a noid light or a high impedance test light to check for pulse.

My 1988 old cutlass ciera turns over but won't start I have fuel pressure and spark will run roughly for a sec if u pour gas in throttle body any ideas I'm stumped

Check fuel injector fuses. With the key one you should have power to the injector plug. You could have (gas) fouled out spark plugs. Or timing jumped.

Hello, just had this problem myself. Check your EGR valve by pulling the vacume line off and pushing up under the valve put your finger over the vacume line hole and release the valve, if it returns to normal position then its bad if not its good. If its bad it needs replaced. Mine did the exact same thing and thats what it was. Hope this helps

The truck doesnt want to idle

check and see if your air inlet tube has a crack or hole in it between the throttle body and the mass air flow sensor

1988 chev celebrity stalls when comming to a stop sign.

no timing belt on the particular vehicle. but yes probably something minor, check fuel pressure, fuel pressure regulator, MAF sensor and IAC motor. all these can cause intermitent stalls. The MAF is located somewhere between the air filter and the throttle body. it is a sensor that sometimes gets dirty with air particles and will affect fuel managment. the IAC motor is on the throttle body and if gets stuck with carbon will not be able to control idle. the fuel pressure regulator is on the fuel rail and if the vacuum line is filled with gas then the diaphram is bad. and the fuel pressure should be 35 to 50 PSI running.

Wont strat

Hello thank you for using FixYa.com for your answer my name is David.
You say it wont start in the normal way by just turning it on but if you pour gas in the throttle body
it will start sounds like you have a weak fuel pump most likely but there are a few other things that could cause it also .
