Its better if you check the spark plug do they need to be changed, replace all the fuilds and oils like diff, gear, brake, radiator and power sterring, the air filter thats its.
It sounds like the timing marks were not aligned in the correct position when the belt was changed. Usually when you change a timing belt, you must turn the engine over by hand atleast 2 full revolutions and recheck the timing mark alignment. The belt usually seats itself to the gear and the marks could have been effected.
timing marks are easy to see,(on the top of gears and line up with the metal indents above them) change the water pump it idles on it... you need a cam holder to hold your cam gears in place when changing they will spin when you take off the old belt... it is an easy timing belt for a *** V6...!
Timing Gear...? when you say gear, it usually is gear/chian configuration. Neon has a timing belt and unless something realy strange happened, you wil never need to repalce/repair a timing gear.
Changing a timing belt is not to terribly hard (well, its all relative to how mechanically inclined you are)
If you want to change the belt, let me know, I can give you instructions (best thing is to get a book thought, they have pictures that are worth a 1000 words!!)
If it is a timing belt and not a chain, the book suggest 4-7 years. If the belt does not look worn or cracked, than I wouldn't worry about it. If it looks like it needs to be changed soon, than it is probably that time to be changed
The transmisson fluid and filter should be changed ever 2 years.
bottom gear go straight up top gear sets about 2oclock thers a small hole in the gear too line up with a hole in the head use a small drill bit too check this!!!!
Sounds like the metal collar that fits between the cam gear & the belt was left out.Good luck, ChevRev P.S. This should be a round metal collar with a curve towards the cam gear to keep the belt from riding towards the cam gear .Without it the belt will slowly shred as it makes contact with the cam gear.Hope this helps you.
is it poss. that the timing belt is off a tooth or 2? were the spark plug wires removed and not put back in correct order sounds like a timing issue to me. maybe map sensor problem
