Take it apart, find the part that snapped. A kick starter has a return spring and a pawl that engages with the crankshaft to turn the engine.

I have both a CT-70 and a z50 and they both have a problem where if I kick it over hard sometimes it will not "engage" and it will just slip.

It sounds more like you have a bad connection somewhere or possibly a weak battery.

You need to find out id your ign switch is sending 12v electrical to the starter.. There ia large post with the positive battery cable attached to it and a small post which is the wire from the ign switch connects.. run a wire from a postive source like the battery cable to the small post.. if the engine cranks you will know the starter is good and its not getting a 12 single from the ign switch. kick starter, you a jeep with a kick starter. wow..... gotta see that.

1st thought is. If you can get at the starter motor with a small hammer,or something,have somone hold the key on "start" and tap the motor,if it cranks ,it's a starter brush broblem.

Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, locate, press and hold in the
valet/overide button, found under the
dash area, (push button, spring loaded)
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid,
and the siren chirps once.

This should reset the alarm, and reset
the grounded relay on the starter wire,
allowing you to start the engine.
the valet switch is by driver side kick panel look for small button may be stuck in wire harness to hide

if you've tested your battery and know you have a good connection at the terminals that one click sound is a bad starter. you may wish to attempt to tap on it while cranking to try to get it to start. if you do crawl under your car use jack stands to hold the car in the air. never leave a losd on the jack. safety first. if this was helpful please leave positive rating.

Probably the neutral safety switch. With your foot on the brake, try moving through the gears as you hold the key to start.

GO TO THE STARTER AND CHECK THE S TERMINAL(SMALL WIRE GOING TO SOLENOID) FOR POWER W/THE KEY IS CRANKED.IF NO POWER THERE THAN THE SECURITY SYSTEM MAY HAVE A PROBLEM.IF YOUR IGNITION KEY HAS A BLACK CHIP IN IT THAT IS FOR THE SECURITY SYSTEM.THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER HAS 2 WIRES COMING OFF IT INSIDE THE STEERING COLLUM.THOSE WIRES BREAK QUITE OFTEN,THEN THE STARTER WON'T CRANK
