Coolant is getting into one of the cylinders of engine , head gasket , a crack in the cylinder head or engine block !

Why is it you guys are not letting us know your names lately? The DDE warning light is related to the Digital Diesel Electronic injection system, hence the black smoke, as the management system is injecting too much fuel into the combustion chambers. Take the vehicle for a digital diagnostic scan. Safer to find out the actual problem before continuing with it on the road. Regards John

yes valve covers could be the problem. the oil leaks around them and drips on the exhaust. jeff

I'd get a compression check done...

chances are you picked up some s..t from the bottom of the tank,use some injector cleaner when you next top up with diesel,should clear the smoking problem.

You have blown the oil rings.

YOU MAY HAVE BLOCKED OIL RETURN HOLES,REMOVE VALVE COVER AND CH# THE 2 F/R

So the only thing now is the light staying on ??
Disconect the possative cable on th battery..
That should re-set everything..

have alternator checked
