SOURCE: steering wheel lock stuck, key won't turn

Thank you thank you! This solved my problem. I have a V70 and I parked it on a steep hill and cranked the wheel toward the curb. When I tried to turn the key in the ignition it would not turn and the wheel was in a tightly locked position. Wouldn't budge -or so I thought. The best solution was right. I pulled the wheel INTO the steer and it gave with some resistance as if it was on a spring. That was all I needed to turn the key in the lock.

SOURCE: Handbrake locked on rear wheel of volvo 440

Turn thr "Star wheel" between the brake pads with a screwdriver. Count the number of notches. Once you have the brakes freed up, reassemble and adjust using the same number of nutches in the opposite direction. You most likely have a cable stuck in locked position. If possible, DRY LUBE it. If not, Install a new cable or sleeve.

SOURCE: 1998 Volvo V70 ignition switch turn 360 degrees

This is the problem with the ignition switch.
The lock cylinder into which the key is inserted, and the electronic switch that sits just behind the lock cylinder are not in proper alignment with each other.
Probably before you plan to replace the switch you can take the switch of and put it back in, many a times that will fix the alignment issue.

Thanks

SOURCE: Remove the steering wheel or airbag from a 2004 Volvo XC90?

You need a steering wheel puller. You may be able to rent this from your parts house. Disconnect the battery for no less than 1/2 hour before disconnecting the air bag or the air bag could deploy. Place air bag facing up or it could become a projectile if set off.

Why won't my 2002 Volvo s80 shift out of park?

All vehicles have a safety feature that won't allow a vehicle to be shifted into gear without the drivers foot being on the brake pedal . Shifter interlock system . There is a electrically controlled solenoid that locks the shifter ,when you step on the brake pedal an electrical signal un locks the shifter ,allowing the gear selector to move.

Lost power steering, car died, changed battery, and barley made it home. The battery has power, but when you turn the key on the dome light and other lights, radio, windows, etc don't work.

Sounds like the vehicle is not charging you may need a new alternator get the car going with jump leads again and test the voltage at the battery terminals with a DC volt meter expect 13.5-14.5 if you get less than 13.5 your alternator is bad or wiring fault also check the alternator belt is tight.

Key will not turn over the car everything including the steering wheel is locked up

Try wiggling the steering wheel when you turn the key. Sometimes there's a steering lock. Also, make sure the car is in Park. Could be the lock cylinder, or the wheel lock jamming.

My steering wheel is locked on my 2001 Volvo. What do you mean by turn the wheel INTO the steer? I'm a new driver and I'm not sure which way I turn the week to release the lock.

if the wheels are pointed to the left than turn the steering wheel gently to the left. If there is to much pressure on the steering wheel position lock it will make it difficult to turn the key. Taking the pressure off the lock by steering the wheel into the direction of the turn will help take the pressure off. If that is the problem the key should turn. If the key still doesn't turn than there is a problem with the lock cylinder.

With the key removed from the lock cylinder you can tap on the lock cylinder with the handle end of a screw driver. After a couple taps try turning the key again. Repeat a couple of times. If the key turns after trying this than the lock cylinder needs to be replaced ASAP.

Key will not turn in ignition

    Hiya,

This could be any number of problems, but first try twisting the steering wheel in either direction, as most modern vehicles are fitted with steering wheel locks and require you to turn the steering wheel by a set distance, then turning the key in order to release the lock and start the engine.

It could also be a warped, distorted, bent or damaged key. If you can remove the ket intact then I would advise to do so, then to take the key to either an approved locksmith so that you can have the key re-fabricated, or better still to a Volvo approved dealership.

Note: Taking any problem to an approved dealership might incur massive charges, so often going elsewhere is sometimes the best answer, unless of course the issue requires a dealership.

The next problem could be if the locking system is supported electronically. Then I would start to investigate your fusebox and the direct wiring to the ignition and lock system. However, this to me does sound like a mechanical issue, and it is here where I would investigate first.

So turn the steering wheel, or move it slightly with one hand, and the opposite hand shoukld be attempting to turn the ignition key.

    N.B.

A broken steering lock can cause this to happen, especially if somebody has tried to steal the vehicle, or too much force has been applied to the lock. Reason.... its exactly what it is meant to do, prevent a vehicle from being moved unlawfully. A collapsable lock is the best way to achieve this especially if the steering lock also locks the ignition barrel. The only way around this would be to remove the entire locking system from the undwerside of the steering wheel.

I hope this is the fixya for you and I look forward to hearing from you soon

    Yours sincerely
