Car will not start shows steering lock on turn wheel and try again I try this and still will not start
SOURCE: steering wheel lock stuck, key won't turn
Thank you thank you! This solved my problem. I have a V70 and I parked it on a steep hill and cranked the wheel toward the curb. When I tried to turn the key in the ignition it would not turn and the wheel was in a tightly locked position. Wouldn't budge -or so I thought. The best solution was right. I pulled the wheel INTO the steer and it gave with some resistance as if it was on a spring. That was all I needed to turn the key in the lock.

Turn thr "Star wheel" between the brake pads with a screwdriver. Count the number of notches. Once you have the brakes freed up, reassemble and adjust using the same number of nutches in the opposite direction. You most likely have a cable stuck in locked position. If possible, DRY LUBE it. If not, Install a new cable or sleeve.

This is the problem with the ignition switch.
The lock cylinder into which the key is inserted, and the electronic switch that sits just behind the lock cylinder are not in proper alignment with each other.
Probably before you plan to replace the switch you can take the switch of and put it back in, many a times that will fix the alignment issue.
Thanks
Kevin
SOURCE: Remove the steering wheel or airbag from a 2004 Volvo XC90?
You need a steering wheel puller. You may be able to rent this from your parts house. Disconnect the battery for no less than 1/2 hour before disconnecting the air bag or the air bag could deploy. Place air bag facing up or it could become a projectile if set off.

sounds as if the locking mechanism is wearing out or not making the proper connection to the steering wheel
