Why would my van radio stay on after I turn the car off and open the door?

Usually radio turns off after 10 minutes after car has been turned off, or once the car door opens. Not now. Turn off the car radio plays. Open door radio still plays for additional 10 minutes. Then it goes off.

My radio stayed on too after I removed the key and opened the door. Fortunately, there's a real cheap and easy fix:

You'll need a can of contact cleaner, the type WITH lubricant - available from electronic stores (Radio Shack, electronic repair shops etc.) and a sheet of 2,000 grit sanding paper

1) clean the rust and/or corrosion off both the latch in the door and the "hook" it latches into in the door's frame with the sanding paper
2) give the latch and the "hook" a squirt of contact cleaner
3) a couple of squirts of contact cleaner in the ignition's key slot
4) slide your key in & out the key slot a few times

Yup, that'll do the trick. It'll also restore the "boing boing" sound when you push the door lock button.

Cheers,

Does the dome light come on when you open the door? It should work off the same trigger.

SOURCE: 2005 chevy express 3500 door light and radio stay on when you turn van off take the key out and open the door. how to fix

This Van has a system in it called delayed exit, this means the radio and other accessories stay on for a time as long as none of the doors are opened, when the door is opened the module senses that switch in the door is activated and shuts everything off. The easy way to test this is open the passenger door, if all shuts off you found the problem, the driver door switch is defective. the switch is attached to the door lock inside the door.

SOURCE: passenger door won't open

most common problem with replacing door handles on these is that you will encounter allignment probs for main catch which this sounds like. if you attempt to open from the inside then try putting lots of pressure on it till it should give way. once you acvhieve this, try looking at the very end of the door with the catch on. if you take a key and roll the latch till it locks and lake sure it is not too far into the mechanism, dont worry simply pulling door handle will disengage it, but once it is shut like this it is extremely difficult to undo.

SOURCE: Chevy Equinox, 2005 - When door opens..radio does not go off

Actually this is the answer, well at least it fixed my problem and for others reading before you go to dealer or buy replacement anything check some wires first.. first my unlock button didnt work driver side, then driver side window quit working and then radio wouldnt shut off..the equinox doesnt have a push button sensor its inside the hinges so its not the sensor...if you open your driver side door and in the jam look for the rubber boot....loosen the rubber boot from the door and from the frame of the car so that you can examine the wires inside there....to my surprise 4 of my wires were ripped in half and 2 of them had previously had an attempt to repair with crimps...so check your wires before you do anything else if your having any of the problems that I was having! Hope this helps, no where did I find the answer I was looking for on any forum, hopefully this is the problem and its a quick fix, just seems like it may be a problem that will continue to happen!

My radio stays on in my 2002 chevy malibu until I unhook the battery then I can hook it back up and it stays off

Will it go off after you have the car turned off for 10 minutes? It may be sensing that your door has been opened. Does your dome light come on when you open the door?

mine does the same thing, theres a switch inside the drivers door that is going bad..turn the key off slowly with the drivers door closed.then open the door and get out, close the door, .if the radio stays on go to he passanger door open and close it, if that does not work you have to discontect the battery under the hood each time you get it..the van is junk, sell it as soon as you can!

My dome lights stay on for about 15 to 20 minutes and my radio shuts off now when i turn the car off, it normally stays on when car is turned off until you open a door.

This is normal...........The dome light will give you time to collect your belongings and the radio or music of your choice will stay playing for about 15 min unless the door opens..............It is just the way cadi rolls........Hope this helps.

When engine turned off and keys removed, the radio and interior console remain on. They don't turn off once the door is opened, and the doors will not lock unless you manually lock with the key. Went to...

Sounds like you have a short to power. there are several wires that connect to your radio and console . one is the ignition wire that kills power to the radio and console when the key turns off. What has probably happened is that wire has found a constant power source from another wire and it constantly stays on. finding this short is very difficult because it is under the dash so you might want to take it to a professional. Also if the van has the feature where the radio doesnt cut off until you open the doors, then your short may be somewhere in the sensors on the doors.

Hi I just bought a 2002 chevy malibu LS. However when i went to start it, the battery was dead. When i turn off the ignition, the radio and the clock was still on. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong...

buy a new battery if this dosnt work trying looking into a starter or ignition relay or coil pack this all will make it not turn over but the radio and clock will work, also look into if your security light is on if so the key could be broke which would make it a problem cause then you have to go to a dealership and buy a new one which might cost a bit. hope this helped :)

04' Ford FreeStar - The Radio Stay On When Van Is Off

Nothing wrong with it. When you remove the key, it stays on for about 20 minutes. It gives you time to finish listening to your radio and roll up the window. Once the driver door is open, everything shuts off or if 20 minutes has passed.
