Hi i have a 2000 Mercury Cougar V6, just a month ago i swapped the engine and the tranny which has 80000 mies. About day or so ago i decided to "flush" the transmission fluid because it had a slight delay while shifting from 1st and 2nd gear. Then i went to test her out and it shift from 1st to 2nd perfect, but won't shift into 3rd gear. The check engine light is on, one code is for the throttle control sensor, and a few others that don't come up as of now.

IT IS NOT GOING INTO NEUTRAL. IT HAS LOST THE DIRECT DRIVE CLUTCH PACK INTERNALLY. SOUNDS LIKE IT IS HIGH MILEAGE. IF SO AND YOU CHANGE THE FLUID IT CLEANS UP ALL THE VARNISH IN THE TRANNY AND THE END RESULT IS TRANNY MALFUNCTIONS DEPENDING ON WHAT KIND OF CARE IT HAS HAD IN THE PAST.
SOURCE: slight miss in engine, hard shift from 1st to 2nd long 2nd gear
Check both O2 sensor(s) and catalytic coverter.. P0420 means catalyst below threshold. Also check the sensor at the transmission and solenoid.
SOURCE: transmission wont shift
check the kickdown/throttle valve cable. It may be bound up and stuck in the maximum position giving you extremely late shifts.
There ISN"T any modulators or vac lines on any Chrysler automatics
SOURCE: Hard shift from 1st to 2nd. Engine rpm goes to 3000.
the tranny is slipping ,,in other words its starting to go.
SOURCE: my 1990 accord ex tranny has a shift problem. it
