For strange error messages like that you need an auto-electrician with a pro grade scan tool computer to find out which is the modules and sensors has failed and is reporting wrongly. A standard code reader isn't bi-directional and can't do this. If the vehicle is driving fine, you can just ignore it.

Abs light came on

Sometimes this light is a small illuminated picture of a car losing control. How this system works: Traction control uses wheel speed sensors to detect when one or more of the car's wheels lose grip and traction. When the system registers a loss of traction in one or more of the wheels, a computer will limit power to the wheels that are still in solid contact with the road to prevent a skid. Common reasons for this to happen:
  • ABS is malfunctioning: Traction control and ABS (anti-lock braking system) often share the same control module and internal self-diagnostics system. As a result, sometimes an issue in the ABS can trigger the traction control light. If this is the case, then both the ABS and Traction Control lights will be on.
  • Broken wheel speed sensors: Wheel speed sensors are usually in the wheel bearing assembly, and determine the rate at which each wheel is moving. The sensors relay that information to the traction control module, which determines whether or not power needs to be shifted. Wheel speed sensors can get dirty or damaged and stop working, which prohibits the traction control module from knowing when to enable the system.Traction control module is faulty: The traction control module - which, again, is often shared with the ABS - can malfunction and break altogether, causing the system to stop working. What to expect: A top-rated mobile mechanic will come to your home or office to determine the source and cause of the traction control issue, and will then provide a detailed inspection report that includes the scope and cost of the necessary repairs. How important is this service? It's important to have the traction control issue investigated as soon as possible, as adverse driving conditions can arise at any time. While your car is unlikely to incur further damage from a faulty traction control system, it won't be safe to drive in rain, snow, sleet, or other inclement weather, or even possibly through pools of water on the road. Furthermore, the issue that is causing the traction control light to illuminate could also be impacting the ABS.

How to restore 1st gear lockout from abs/trac. module acting up w/o replacing the very poorly designed unit that has been proven to cause worse braking/traction than an experienced driver can perform.

hi. does this sound familiar.

Anti Lock Brake System (ABS) problem. Has trouble code C1243.

1. Pin test power and ground to the Electronic Brake Traction Control Module (EBTCM).

2. Stress test the power and ground by using a high beam headlight or blower motor to put a load on the system.

3. If power and ground are OK, remove the EBTCM and hot wire the pump motor. If it runs OK and is quite, replace the EBTCM. If the motor is noisy replace both the Motor and the EBTCM.

Wat is ars

ASR system:

"The electronic stabilisation program (ESP) makes the vehicle easier to control in handling situations close to the limit It reduces the danger of swerving and thus improves directional stability. ESP identifies the car's intended direction and response. It applies the brakes on individual wheels, thereby generating one-sided forces that help to keep the car moving in the desired direction. The program uses the anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), the electronic differential lock (EDL) and the traction control (ASR) system, and is permanently active."
"For today's typical high-torque engines, a form of wheelslip regulation or traction control (ASR) can increase both comfort and safety, particularly on surfaces with differing coefficients of friction or on slippery roads. It makes smooth starts and acceleration possible through all speed ranges without wheel-spin or fishtailing.
ASR only operates in conjunction with the electronic accelerator (E gas) and uses components of the anti-lock braking system (ABS). If one wheel suddenly begins to rotate faster than the others (slip), ASR intervenes in the engine management system and reduces power until the wheel stops spinning.
ASR improves traction and can help the driver maintain control even if the limit of adhesion is inadvertently reached while cornering. In addition, it reduces tire wear. ASR activation, is indicated by a flashing light in the instrument cluster; it works with the electronic differential lock (EDL) and it is also part of the electronic stabilization program (ESP). ASR can be deactivated with the ESP switch."

What is the function of ECT in Toyota hi ace 2L turbo diesel?

E electronically C controlled T transmision
  • Sometimes it has two sometimes three settings....
  • Power which holds the gears longer before change up....
  • Economy....gears change normally....
  • Snow....traction control...This last mode uses the ABS
  • A anti lock B brake S system
  • The ABS system automatically monitors the rotational speed of each wheel, and when brakes are applied, releases any brake about to lock up, independent of the others.
  • This is done because when wheels lock and skid, traction and control is lost....
  • Traction control brakes any wheel which begins to lose traction under power, spinning too fast and thereby also loosing traction if it was not controlled...
Hope this answers your question
It can be a slippery subject but we can slide across it....In a controlled way naturally

My 2000 Lincoln town car is jerking and my check traction light is coming on my car will stall out but i can start it back up

If you have a switch for the traction control, the stalling of the engine can be reduced or eliminated by turning off the traction control.

The traction control probably has debris inside the rear emergency brakes. The traction control works by counting the speed of each wheel. When the part that counts the speed is blocked with debris, it thinks one wheel is slipping and kills the engine and applies the rear brake to the fastest spinning side.

The motor is suppose to lose rpm until the wheelspin is stopped. Then the motor is suppose to run normally. If the motor is completely dying you have a terrible problem with the sensor on the rear wheels.

The Traction control needs to be looked at, some Brake shops may be able to fix it. A dealer would have the tools. There should be nothing wrong with the engine, its suppose to react to the sensors.

ABS light came on and also the Advanctrac light....says check ADVtrac.

There are many sensors on your anti-lock brake system, as well as on your traction control system. Sometimes one giving a signal will set off the other one. Unless you are can physically feel any symptoms, then a computer test is really the only way to tell what the problem is. Many auto part stores offer to check the computer, and many of those will do it for free. One you know what the computer says is wrong, you can have the problem repaired. You can still drive your vehicle, but be aware that it is highly possible that your anti-lock function as well as the traction control system may not work. The anti-lock keeps your wheels from locking up if you slam on the brakes. The traction control diverts power and/or uses the anti-lock brake system to reduce braking on a certain wheel. I would imagine that there is a problem with the anti lock brake system since it is used in the traction control system. Hope it turns out to be small!

Transmission Traction "Off" light stays lit with Traction button

The traction control system is controlled through the Anti-lock brake system. The way it works is if one of your wheels starts spinning the ABS applys the brake to that wheel to transfer power to the oppsite wheel that is getting traction. If your ABS is bad then your Traction control won't work. To check it I would find a parking lot on a wet day. In an open space mash in the gas. if you hear the ABS system kick in and you don't squall the tires then your good. My guess is you won't. What I would be worried about is will my ABS work. When checking the traction control is a good time to check the ABS. Acclerate to around 15 mph, then mash the brake as your live depended on it. If you hear a motor run and feel a vibration or grind in the brake peddal, then it works.

TRACTION CONTROL.

that is what it is desgined to do - reduce acceleration and apply the brakes intermittently when the wheels spin. You have a switch you cn push to disable it. You need to disable each time you start car. See owner manual.

06-10: Traction Control 1996 Contour, Mystique Workshop Manual
DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Traction Control System The optional traction control system is designed to control wheel spin when accelerating on slippery or loose surfaces. Traction control system is available only with anti-lock brakes. The traction control system includes the following components:
  • Hydraulic control unit.
  • Throttle control actuator (9N825).
  • Traction control switch.
  • Traction control warning indicator.
  • Front brake anti-lock sensor (2C204).
  • Rear brake anti-lock sensor (2C190).
The traction control system operates as follows:
  • System functions by transferring torque from the spinning wheel to the wheel with the most traction.
  • This is achieved by applying the brake at the spinning wheel through the hydraulic control unit or reducing the throttle opening.
  • Traction control braking and throttle control occur at vehicle speeds up to 50 km/h (30 mph).
  • At vehicle speeds above 50 km/h (30 mph), only throttle limiting control is used.
  • If speed control is operating when traction control system engages the traction control system will disengage speed control through the use of a speed control relay. This action is the same as applying the brake pedal with speed control engaged.
1996 contour
Traction Control Switch The traction control switch is located on the instrument panel, left of the steering column.
