SOURCE: shift cable disconnected from transmission

Sounds like either a part is broken or something needed is missing. First you need to know what is supposed to be and then you can figure "what is or isn't".
If you don't know enough about it, I would suggest you find someone who is better qualified to help make a determination here.

SOURCE: replace bulb on automatic gear shift console

If the shift console is on floor then look for bolts holding it down.  Take out bolts and then you can maneuver console so you can see where light is plugged in and get the right light to replace it.  It will probably be a small light which tend to cost a bit more, but at least you'll have the light back.

After we flushed tranny and cleaned out gunk, it ran good for a few weeks. now it will run good for about ten minutes, then it will not pull in Drive. is there a solution better than a new tranny?

When you say flushed out the tranny, was this done by flowing fluid through or by removing the transmission pan and draining the oil. has the filter been changed? Is the transmission fluid up to the right level?

2002 toyota Highlander. will not go into park. will drive fine in all gears, but from rev to park is basically impossible. Have to push rather strongly to get it there in order to turn off and get key out....

Hello. Welcome to FixYa.

It sounds like the bushing on the transmission, where the shift cable attaches, is either broken or seized.

What to do:

Go out, open the hood, and have someone move the shift lever. Observe the front of the transmission, on the driver side, where the cable meets the lever on the front of the transmission.

The bushing may be seized or broken.

Highlander transmission jerky

you have had the problem for 17 years and never bothered to have it fixed under warranty
The manufacture is only liable for the problem if you were on their case for 17 years
well try running the fault codes now to see if there are fault codes reported ( use a scanner with the right protocol for the toyota ECM)
Maybe the problem is not the transmission as you suspect but somewhere else
What transmission do you have
is it an automatic or a CVtransmission
There are substantial differences

What do the settings S-D and plus minus on trasmission shifter m

The plus and the minus allows you to "manually" shift the automatic transmission; sort of like a manual transmission, without a clutch......minus = downshift, + = upshift.
Just put it in "D" and drive on.
