2002 BMW 525it wagon engine light is on test says something with Evap, Fuel cap is fine. now the gas gauge is registering empty and there is plenty of gas. How serious is this issue? And how can I check...

It is apparent that the Fuel Sensor in the tank has failed,or the plug in, for the Tank Electrics has become disengaged, or the fusing cicuit has failed, which would indicate a fault in its self. Have a Good Samaritan have a look around the tank area, for the fault, which may be simple or obvious, and check the fuse holders, for a blown fuse.
Best of luck in your endevours,
Regards, DT
