You will need to dissemble the steering colume for inspection of parts. Maybe something has come loose or needs to be replaced.

my golf 4 1.8 automatic transmission gearbox change gear 1 & 2 but 3,4,5 are not changing..wht can b problem..plis help um so disperate!!!!

Hopefully this works. I tried to upload the factory diagrams to this site. You have to piece them together after you print them and use the legends. Aftermarket diagrams are better but these will work if you're patient.

if u press unlock button and pin not coming up keep pressing lock/unlock and bang the door on the outside about 2 inches under handle

As in, you recieved a lanp on the dashboard that says "service inspection?" If this is the case, it's likely corresponding to a major service interval, such as 15,000 or 30,000 miles. I honestly do not know the reset proceedure for that lamp, but if you have had all major systems checked recently (brakes, tires, belts, hoses, fluid changes/checks) I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's telling you to see your authorized dealer for a glorified oil change. the Stick

engine management system. could be anything. advise you to go to a VW dealer as they would give you a diagnosis

The way to find this out is simple, on the housing of the trans there is a code, a serial number, that will tell you what type of gearbox is required for this model.

Is the accu still right? (12V round about)
Are the bobines and the bougies still alive?
Check the connectors from both, they are up ( 4 in a row )
(first time i looked here, could be that your problem is already solved by now)

It sounds as if the clutch drive plate has broken , it will give you the impression that you have a clutch pedal , but you won't have any drive
