Hi Kristen. I follow to what you have said and my advise is that since you have the check engine light on,the best and easy procedure is to find a scanner and connect it to the diagnostic socket which is on your vehicle somewhere under the dashboard. On doing so surely you will get the fault causing your engine to have high revs and then drop to dead. Without be completely positive might you have either broken cracked vacuum hose,or very dirty throttle and needs cleaning.
wish you the very best.

Need to get a diagnostic test with an OBDII Scanner. You may need to have it towed into a shop for this service or if you have any friends/relatives that own one, this is the place to start. Too many things could be wrong without having a point to start at.

My car has high iddle when is on neutral or packing and engine light went on continuasly and is not due for services

The engine light has nothing to do will servicing your vehicle . You car has OBD 2 onboard diagnostics second generation ! Emission based computer controlled system , when that light comes on it means there is a problem with the system an your polluting the air , an you need to take it to the repair shop an have it checked out. When I am Driving my car and stop for a traffic light, the engine will die, stop iddling?

Best to check your alternator to see if it's work properly. Any garage can test it. A bad alternator can drain a battery.

Why when i switched the lights on then car died

Check the output on the alternator.. your battery might be just about dead.. Alternator should put out 14.5 v or more with the engine running, The battery with the engine stopped should read 12V or better.. with the engine running the battery should read almost as much as the alternator output.

Engine dies

p0172 could be a few issues, A poor performing O2 sensor can cause a rich condition. Also an injector sticking open can cause a rich condition. I would start with a throttle body cleaning and a top engine clean (I love Sea foam) it has the least side effects, run the injector cleaning ( IT MAY SMOKE OUT THE EXHAUST LARGE CLOUDS) dont be alarmed. This is a good thing. Wait a day or so to clear the codes, because the top engine clean may very well set a code anyways.

1990 cadillac fleetwood die when iddling and sputters at stops.

Sounds like you might have a weak fuel pump. You need to check your fuel pressure you didn't say which engine it has but if its a 5.7 you need 9-13 psi with the engine running. If its not within the specs then replace the fuel pump and filter.

Problems with my 94 k1500 / changed idle control valv / map sensor / throttle control sensor /plugs,wires,cap,rotor ,and fuel filter / these are all the things i have bought but nothing i have done will...

it might be the ECU, when cold the computer raises the iddle to warm it up, when reaches temp., it dropes it down to normal iddle, but it might not know where the correct iddle is, it might be another sensor like a cam, map, throttle position senssor.

Check engine light on and not iddling right

the 1st thing you do is find out what system trouble code was stored with the check engine light, there are over 200 faults tat turen on the xceheck engine light so guessing which one is nearly imposs. have the trouble code test run.

Civic 95 lx 1.5 engine dies when iddling

Check the IACV, its located at the throttle body, facing the firewall. They get junked up with carbon. Just clean it up with carb cleaner and bleed out the air from the coolant.
