Hot or cold engine or both?

which engine, to work on one, you need to know what it is

and what EFI system it uses. or its all just a crap shoot.

no new distributor cap and rotor why skip the full tune up,. why?

first questions.

1: can you save the stall with a a fast right foot.

2: why change out pump etc, if fuel pressure is at spec, a $20 tool would have saved you 5 hours hard labor and bath in fuel? why?

Stalls 101.:

the engine can stall for over 50 reasons are you going to do all 50?

surely not. why not consider diagnosis.. as a path.

1: car stalls, right foot saves it. and can drive fast if i keep foot busy.

a: ISC stuck closed.

b: EGR valve stuck open (depends on which engine options)

c: low compression on one or more cylinders.

2: can\'t save it from stalling (right foot)

a: fuel pressure is low. (wires bad.)

b: lost spark, for any reasons.

c: lost 12vdc to the EFI system( killing spark and fueling)

stalls.

hot or cold or both

stalls, can save it or not, hot and cold

hot restarts are easy and it runs good hot,yes./no.

there is lots more to it, then just stalls. lots more.

SOURCE: 1997 subaru Impreza sport won't stay running . stalls after minute replaced Fuel pump,filter spark plugs wires ,cleaned injectors checked fuel pressure what next

check your grounds. I find many easy fixes by cleaning all the grounds around the engine bay. I would also check the ground at the fuel pump connector that wiring is prone to corrosion and breakage

1996 trooper turns over but wont start

A few things to check:
  1. Did you repressurize the system after replacing the fuel pump? THIS IS THE MOST COMMON ISSUE. You must cycle your ignition switch from OFF to ON several times before first start after depressurizing the system;
  2. Has the vehicle been bumped hard, violently jarred, or in an accident? RESET THE INERTIAL SAFETY SWITCH;
  3. Are you getting correct fuel pressure? If not, replace the fuel pressure regulator.

Engines not starting

If your Trooper "cranks" but doesn't start or runs for a few seconds and stalls out, your fuel pump has gone bad. They are notorious for this. If you replace your fuel pump, replace your fuel filter. More information is needed though.

Fuel problems

Sounds like the fuel pressure regulator is stuck in the open position.I am trying to remember if this engine(Vortec?)has a return line to the tank.If it does,try disconnecting the return(smaller) line,and use something to plug the fitting on the outlet of the fuel on the intake(Use a piece of fuel hose and a bolt_make sure you use a hose clamp,as there is 50 PSI of pressure)

When this stall or fails to start occurs have a pressure gage hooked up to the fuel injection pressure test port (top of engine in the pipe that supplies the fuel to injectors) and see if you are losing fuel pressure.

Trouble starting my 1992 cav. 2.2. New battery, starter ok, new plugs, can start with ether and then idles and runs fine. Seems like I do not have that initial fuel??

well there is a fuel pressure regulator which keeps pressure on, even while engine is off. i would suspect it is bad, or you have something else leaking pressure off while the engine is not running.
