1999 Isuzu Trooper TOD won't go into 4 whl drive. TOD light just flashes. Check engine light not on. Someone told me it might just be a malfunctioning senser. No dealers in my area. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated

got the PT 4wd system?
or the TOD system.?
left dash cluster, see graphic of wheels etc.? that is TOD
we cant guess drive lines here. all are optional day one made in Japan.
if part time , its for ice only or offroad, never dry pavement.
are you? on dry pavement? cant guess that either.
Have your owners handbook? The TOD system is explained in that and may offer an answer. Its a traction on demand system (TOD) and will have sensors and switches. I believe it runs the back axle at normal conditions but switches to both axles when traction is low or lost. If you haven't a handbook you might find one online for down load or just to read or it would be in a manual like haynes or chiltons.
you need to check out the code first, I know ps701 can diagnose your car. Or you can take it to the auto zone or local dealer to check out, Hope help.....
I am not sure what the problem is, but I do know if the check engine light is red, and flashing it indicates that whatever the problem is it's DOING DAMAGE. I don't recommend starting this vehicle until the problem is solved.
my 99 honda crv, 2 wheel drive. turns on..drives for a period of time, then ramdomly shuts off and then i have trouble turning it on..but it does turn on eventually. it does this everyday
That is perfectly normal for when the TOD is not engaged. When it is engaged the fronts will light up according to how much torque is being sent to them. As long as the "CHECK" light on your TOD display is off, you are fine.
