My specs from factory shop manual give different numbers.
2.5 engine with Manual trans is 10.5 quarts
2.5 engine with auto trans is 10.2 quarts
3.0 engine with ,manual trans is 15.2 quarts
3.0 engine with auto trans is 14.8 quarts
4.0 engine with manual trans is 13.5 quarts
4.0 engine with auto trans is 13.2 quarts
Sounds like trans has a major problem and has gone into "limp mode". Actually goes into 2nd gear and will not go into any other forward gear. This is to keep you from being totally stranded. Get it checked.
hi there i have a renault clio 57 plate 1.6 auto. it keeps going into safe mode on the gearbox intermitantly. i have read auto trans fault codes which are df241 df240 df242 df243 and df231 which relate too abs sensors.have you any ideas thanks
it may not be a transmission problem. have you checked for fault codes to make sure it is not in limp mode? limp mode keeps vehicle from accelerating properly because the ECM has put the system at a limited setting to keep the engine running but not to its full potential.
Sticky pistons in the valve body will cause your problem. When working properly the trans shifts smoothly. When stuck closed you must shift through the sequence in the manual mode as you are now
You have a 7th generation mit galant. These are great cars but they have one major weakness; the auto transmision dies. Generally you have to have the trans rebuilt or many owners swap ion a manual trans. There is a great web site for owner's of the mits galant. http://www.thegalantcenter.net/ lots of great information about galants to include hwo to swap the auto trans for a manual. You want to go to http://www.thegalantcenter.net/forum.php and scroll down to 7 generation section of the forum Galants are great cars; I own 4 of them, all 7g
WOW. You want to put a 3.9 ltr V6 from a 2001 Dakota into a 1998 Dakota with a 2.5 ltr 4 cylinder? And you want to keep the manual trans? Have you considered what you will be using for a fuel and engine managment system? If you have a wrecked truck as a host vehicle then the changover may work. But it will take patience and a lot of work. I don't think the 4 cylinder trans will bolt up but I am not sure - never tried that. However that light duty trans will probably not handle the torque for very long even if it did bolt up. Your local Auto Salvage Yard will have a changeover guide and be able to tell you if that trans will fit either engine. My recommendation is to swap everthing and change that 98 to a 01, auto trans and everything.
Good Luck
Let me know how it goes?
