Your "transmission high input sensor" is also known as a "neutral safety switch". It depends on you trans (auto, or standard) as to the location. Either way, it's a simple and inexpensive repair.

SOURCE: 1996 Saturn SL1 - 1.9L-4 cyl. will not start. The

possible coil pack which is a semi popular failed item on these vehicles....sometimes the pack will fire cold ,then break down hot. Another cause of failure is bad/open plug wires where the kv's have no where to go except right through the heart of that pack and to the easiest path to ground...check pink wires for 12v to the pack and if thats present you might need that puppy....good luck

SOURCE: 2002 Saturn SL1 check engine light code P0303

For old models, Saturn/GM also used the same material fiberglass gasket in your model, you almost certainly have a leak from a crumpled, sucked-in gasket as I suffered (and many others). I would say going to Saturn dealership to make repairs is probably not good idea if they are going to put in the same GM intake gasket part. Maybe possible to specify Felpro gasket with whatever shop you go to if you don't do the repair yourself. I would not go too long with your car in that condition as there is localized leaning at your cyl-3, that could cause a burnt exhaust valve there.

The exhaust is extra hot venting out that cylinder. P0303 is misfire at cyl-3. Mine was P0301 (cyl-1). You may get P0507 once in a while when PCM fails to control the fast idle caused by the leak under certain conditions. Most of the time, it is very slow idle caused by 3 cylinders running. You run smoother in cold idle because the IAC opens up to increase idle and end up lowering the manifold vacuum, so the reduced vacuum causes less leaking at the failing intake manifold gasket.

I'd say try cleaning everything with your ignition before replacement; Idle problems could be caused by engine coolant sensor (ECTS). Are you sure it was changed? Did they put on a new wire connector along with it?

Hope helps.

I have a 2000 Saturn SL1 that would start out fine in the moring but by the time I drove 25 miles to work it would be idling at 3000 and stick there or come down VERY slowly. I replace the ICV. Still had...

Sounds like a vacuum leak at the canister or vacuum lines, lift the hood, start the car and listen for a hissing sound after it warms up, on the fender/frontend area there should be a black canister with vacuum hoses connected, check all the hoses end to end for leaks, there is a vacuum that is created in the tank that is controled (vented gas cap), if there is no vacuum in the canister to the fuel tank, this will cause the check engine light to come on (faulty gas cap). vacuum leaks cause the RPM to increase, I am surprized that's the only code you have. most cars have a diagram under the hood of the emissions.

Can be but also check and make sure there are NO vacuum leaks or broken vacuum hoses anywhere on intake. I would also suggest if engine light is on is to take this vehicle to an AUTO ZONE they will check by computer for this problem and let you know for FREE. When you get the code I would be more than glad to help you further. Don't guess you may be wasting money and time. Good luck and thanks for using FIX YA
