SOURCE: 2001 mazda protege will not start

well, with all that you have changed the only two possible things that are left PCM and the ECM....

Do you have an alarm system on this vehicle? If you purchased this car second hand it may have something that is inhibiting the engine from firing. From what you have told us here that would be where I would start looking.

I really hope this is helpfull

SOURCE: obd2 code p0300 on mazda protege 2002

Just had one of these with a maxima, the code is multiple random misfire, when a misfire occurs, to start is do the basics, replace the plugs, check fuel pressure, clean throttle body, and coolant is topped up. also I have seen if the O2 sensor is not working correctly is can cause a misfire, you will need a scan tool to look at what the O2 sensor is doing, o rby back probing the sensor (don't damage the O2 sensor wires). If it wires replace them as well, if it has coils they usually dont give that code if one fails, it will pinpoint that a certain coil if one fals.

SOURCE: code po705 mazda protege lx shaking rough start

The Code you refer to is P0705 Transmission Range Sensor Circuit malfunction (PRNDL Input). It is a possiblility that because this code is present, this sensor is malfunctioning. If it is malfunctioning, that means the engine needs to "guess" the value that this sensor is responsible for. In most cases when this happens, the engine will go for a value that ensures the car runs. The engine will not try to run smooth or efficently, it will only try to run. It is my guess that if you have the sensor checked and replaced, the problem might be fixed. Please let me know if this answers your question and please rate my response. Thank you

Testimonial: "that is good. where is the trasmission range sensor circuit located "

I have a 2001 mazda protege my check engine light has been on for a while but now it starting blinking. What does this mean and what should i do

Hi,

When your Check Engine light illuminates, it's an indication that your on-board diagnostic computer has detected an abnormality in one of the vehicle's critical circuits.

As the light is now blinking, this implies there is a critical fault which must be attended to URGENTLY - potentially, this could relate to a critical safety system.

I recommend you URGENTLY have the fault codes read from your vehicle's OBD computer. Autozone may do this for you at no charge, or you can take to your nearest Mazda dealership to have the codes read - this process takes only 15mins (depending on the skill of the technician), so should be at minimal cost. I also recommend you be present when these codes are read, so you can see this process for yourself.

This procedure requires in-depth knowledge of OBD diagnostics, so if you choose to take your vehicle to a basic garage, don't be surprised if they either do not know what they're doing, or charge you large sums of money to carry out a simple task.

Once the codes are read from your vehicle's computer, you will immediately know which circuits require further attention.

Do not attempt to tune the engine, nor replace any components....until after the diagnostic has been performed.

Hope this helps......

During a DMV inspection my vehicle failed because of these codes: P0401,P0700,P1739. What should I do? and what is the estimated cost?

P0401=EGR valve insufficient flow
P0700=transmission control system malfunction
P1739=transmission control module controller circuit

Get the EGR valve checked. It may be that a vacuum line is off. But worst case, say you need a new EGR valve. You can price one at autozone.com. Then find out what a shop would charge for labor to put it in. The transmission codes may be intermittant faults. If your car seems to be running fine, reset the codes and they may not come back until after your test, if ever. If the codes come right back, you'll have to take it to a transmission shop for check out. Any major auto parts store has a code reader that can reset your codes for free.

Just to be clear, have all your work done and then reset your codes. Then you will have to drive your car normally for a few days before taking your DMV inspection. There is a test they will run to see if enough drive cycles (a start, run, and shut down=one cycle) have been accomplished after a code reset. This prevents people from resetting the codes and immediately taking the test without any work being done.

My 2001 mazda protege gets really loud when I accelerate just before switching gears (standard). I was wondering if this is a problem with the front exhaust. Also if run A/C to long drips on passenger side...

Exhaust system needs a visual inspection to determine defective part.
Drain hose to evaporator is clogged.Put on eye and face protection, use a soft stick object to shake the debris from the evaporator hose free. Lots of cold water will fall on you if your not
careful.

I cannot inspect my car because it reads is not ready yet. I used a actron code reader and I had one code that turn out to be the ox sensor by cat. I changed it. When I went back to autozone to get codes...

Basically take the car for a long drive .
Stop off get gas , drive to a shopping center( need a few on/ off starts). Few hard braking , few not so hard braking. reverse when possible . Gotta figure about 30- 50 miles of driving.

2001 mazda protege dx 5 spd dies, brakes are seized up?

It seems that one of the pulleys is bent, or you are using the wrong timing belt. I would suggest changing them. That would probably explain why the timing belt keeps breaking. The braking problem can be related, or you simply have a leak somewhere in the system and should try bleeding the brakes after thorough inspection.

2001 mazda protege heater would only work on

You may have a faulty fan switch. Had mine replaced when only #1 and #4 were working and it fixed the problem. Unfortunately, there may be more issues, as a year later the switch is failing again. May be some kind of feedback that is causing it to fail.

1999 Mazda Protege ES/1.8L Manual Trans

cat is probably gone if it is the stock one, but i also know the mass air flow sensor could be the problem, and its also the cheaper of the two things you could do (MAS or pre-cat). you can try cleaning it with the spray stuff they sell at any local auto store. readings online say this car running rich will kill the catalizer in two weeks so you might want to keep that in mind.
