Does anyone know how to reprogram a remote/fab for a 2003 Montero (Limited) so that you can just press UNLOCK once (rather than twice) and it will open all four doors? I know I did this a while back on my Outlander, but not sure if you can do it for the Montero.

Often, you need to press the unlock button on the remote twice. First press unlocks the door and second press disables the immobiliser and allows the vehicle to start. The key alone will not start the vehicle.

Alternatively, when the key is in the ignition - press the remote unlock again.

The remote acts as an immobiliser device. The reason your car won't start on the key is probably because the system won't allow any key in the ignition - it is preventing theft of the vehicle. Once the unlock button on the remote is pressed the system then recognises that key is the legitimate one for the vehicle and the disables the immobiliser and allows you to start the car

I had the same problem. you have two choices. 1-Go to an auto parts store and buy a new one, and then try to program it yourself. 2-Take your key fab to a Ford dealer and either have them reprogram the original or buy a new one. Sorry, but that's the only solution I have found.

check your owner Manuel for how to program key

ok here we go...... inside the key there is numbers. keys with 5 or 7 characters can only be programmed using diagnostic equipment. keys with 8 characters as follows
ign off, press central door locking button for more than 5 seconds
NOTE: doors should lock then unlock. in other words pull the button up and down.
carry out the following within 10 - 15 seconds
press first key lock/unlock button twice (some models once)
press second key lock/unlock button twice (some models once)

reprogram the remote transmitter. first leave driver door open all other doors closed,key removed from the ignition switch. insert key into the ignition switch,then remove it.press lock and unlock on the vechicle door lock control switch at 1 second intervals 5 times. close and repoen drivers door.press lock and unlock on the vechicle lock control switch at 1 second intervals 5 times. insert key into ignition switch. switch ignition on and off twice to program a remote transmitter code whilst erasing the original codes or three timre to check how many remote transmitters are currently registered.remove key from the ignition switch.system should now lock and unlock.twice to indicate programming mode or one to four times,slowly to indicate number of remote transmitters registered.for the solara press and hold lock and unlock remote buttons together, press lock remote button for a second period of 1 second. system should now lock and unlock vechicle.once to confirm, twice to indicate registration has failed.if required repeat button procedure to program remaining remote transmitters.note to exit programming mode close drivers door or insert ignition key.maximum of 4 remote transmitters can be programmed.if akk failed let dealership reprogram remote transmitters.

I hope you're able to get into your car because it sounds like the system needs to be reprogrammed.

It sounds like they disconnected your battery when they worked on your car....
Try this and see if it works..

Before you spend bigger amount, check the battery in the key. Usually a CR2032 battery can be find there. (Open the Keyfob by inserting an object into the key ring holder and pulling the top and bottom apart, Seperate the two halfs, Open the top half to expose the battery... )

I had the same issue with my remote start on another vehicle, the part that bypasses the code on the key had to be reset. The way we figured it out was everything was normal except the vehicle did not start & the security light flashed rapidly.

it's not the girlfriend, it is the PDM, passanger door module, got mine a rock auto for 120.00, need to get the one specific for your VIN, not on most parts lists, it is a control board for all power windows and locks and the keyless entry. My cadillac was doing exsactly what your truck is doing. once you put the new one in you need to reprogram the remotes, not too hard, hold down lock button on drivers door, ignition on/off twice, let go of the door lock button, press both unlock, lock buttons and hold untill you hear the lock unlock. your program sequence might be slightlyl different check the web.
