SOURCE: Transmission stuck in reverse. Cannot

First, get under the truck (chock the tires and set emergency brake) and check the linkage. It's possible it came loose. If it's not or does not appear to be broken, put it into place (for the gear of reverse, should go right into place; if it is off); and then use the shifter inside to set in park.
If it is not off, try pushing the lever (under the truck) into the park postion (should be back - toward rear of truck).
If you cannot move this by hand (you should be able to) then the next step is to check your ****** fluid level. Now remember, generally you would do this while it is hot, but considering the given circumstance, you'll merely check to see if there is any reading. Now, on newer vehicles, for transmissions, there should be a "hot" level, and a "cold" level, so that you can check it while it's cold. Do this, and add appropriate amount of fluid if it's low.
If it's full (check a few times to get the same or close to the same reading multiple times). If you are convinced it's full, contact the dealer or a transmission mechanic and inquire further with them as to the exact problem.
Please let me know if you need furthera assistance.

Can the transmission gear shift cable be adjusted on a 06 suzuki forenza

Yes, the shift control cable can be adjusted on this vehicle to correct the shift control lever and selector lever positions. To check if an adjustment is needed, place the shift control lever in the Park position and check to see if the selector lever is all the way forward. If it isn't, adjustment is needed. The adjustment procedure begins with removing the battery, battery tray and floor console. Next, place the shift lever in the Park position and loosen the pinch not on the shift control lever. Move the selector lever all the way forward on the transmission. Then insert the shift control cable into the shift control lever tightly and secure the adjuster pinch nut. Lastly, reinstall the floor console, battery tray and battery. You can read more here: https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-shift-selector-cable

Izuzu rodeo drives forward on reverse gear

redux. (A/T trans answer not STICK SHIFTED manuals)
no years stated
no transmission stated, auto or stick.

stuck in Reverse.
linkage checks are first.

the trans has lever on the side
called the Manual valve.
it that lever does not go to DRIVE,
then there will be no drive.
there is a cable from the Shift selector to that
transmission side lever.

inspect these parts for proper movement
no damage, not slipping cable, etc.
only you can do that.
or your mechanic.

1995 Isuzu Rodeo will not shift in to drive

car 2wd/ or 4wd.
will not shift into any gear. reverse too, wont move?
well as with a/t boxes this.

1: check fuses first. if the 4l30 it need power to the tcm.
but will still car moves if the lever moves. even fuse blown.
2: the levels right ,per operators guide, do not use engine oil level style checks or make it WORSE.
3: a new filter, kind makes sense in all cases.
4: you shifted to DRive, but did the box shift to drive, under car.
look, there, have help shift and you look
this is called the MANUAL valve lever, if it fails to shift right
it will not work. super simple cave man stuff here, a cable.
must shift out of park and out of neutral or car will never move.
5: lots more, but that is par for course on all a/t boxes .
6: line pressure test pass? (fsm book shows this simple test)
if that fails the box is bad. (low pressure)

I have a 94 isuzu rodeo v-6. 3.2 automatic. Trans . I replaced it with a 93 automatic trans. And it will not engage in any gears any thoughts to what it might be .?

is if full of Dexron VI now? TO THE COLD MARK?
and after startup, in park, it holds the cold mark?
then rises to the hot mark.>?
so the old trans was dead, so you bought another used, trans, that is 21 years old and expect it to work great? ok....
and did you drop the pan, and replace the filter?
the pump can suck Dexron VI through a packed filter.
and while the pans is do you have the shift soleniods here.
if yes your trans has a TCM and does all shifting,
but manual mode would work if, TCM is unplugged.

so if you manually move the side shift lever. to drive, Lo or reverse
the car will not move. im I right.? (false neutrals?) right?
why not say what it does.. not just (not engage) (creeps in gear?)
does the transmission act likes its in neutral? and RPM rises fast with right foot and car fails to move?
don't use the shift lever, use the transmission side lever. to prove the trans is failing
94 rodeo.... first i must look up what trans is there.
there are 2 types. (hyradmatic, and TCM electronic)
see? and many car makes have both types same year, yes,,, that makes for online help near impossible. lacking the side plate
numbers on the ORIGINAL trans..... a fact !!!

all answers are USA cars. (USA forum it is)
I will now quote the FSM (factory serv. man.) book facts for 1994
The 4L30-E transmission, the E means , electronically shifted.
needs a working TCM to shift all gears automatically.
tcm = transmission control module, (can be by self or part of PCM)

did you adjust the shifter like the book?
see bottom photo.
if reverse is dead, then the below is set wrong or trans is bad.
(or lacks proper fluid level or the filter is packed.)
the lever is held at N, with a rubber band
and the mech, adjusts the trans lever to N.
(standard steps on all a/T boxes)

25722445-2f5dzn2kvqcmxgnp5h420nyp-5-0.jpg next clues.

this is the French GM trans in your car.
its electronically shifted. if not, its a true Hyrdamatic.
25722445-2f5dzn2kvqcmxgnp5h420nyp-5-1.jpg

25722445-2f5dzn2kvqcmxgnp5h420nyp-5-3.jpggot those 3 solenoids. is the connector below , connected?

my best advice, get reverse to work first...
that is 100% hydramatic mode. (lever to R , at drivers hand and lever at trans in R detent !!!

Will not shift out of park

the shifter lever is stuck?
or the lever move to drive but car dont move.
its on ramps so the parking pawl in tranny is not jammed.
does the side of transmission, selector move correctly with
console lever action.
is this a park lock out feature failure.
or is the tranny ACTUALLY stuck in park with its lever in DRIVE
lever on side of trans , no car?

1989 Ford Crown Victoria wont go into reverse and drives in nuetral???

Sounds like your linkage slipped out of sequence. On your transmission there is a place where you can manually shift your tansmission through the gears. When you move the selector on the trani it should move the shifter as well. All the way up on selector should be park, then R,N,D so on. If you move the selector all the way up at your shifter reads something else, you need to adjust the linkage and put car in park with selector on trani in park and tighten linkage back up. Run through all the gears and you should be good.

Put a new engine in a 1998 isuzu rodeo now it won't start. I thought it was the neutral safety switch because the R was on the dash and it was in park

This could be the problem. If your dash indicator is showing reverse but the transmission is in park it could be the safety switch. I'm not talking about the safety switch in the transmission though. In automatics they put a second switch to kill the starter from engaging. You need to adjust the linkage. If your shifter isn't actually on the column but the indicators are there is a cable that attaches the floor shift to the column and that is adjustable. Put the Floor shifter in Park and turn the column section nearest the dash by hand until you find park. Then adjust the cable length as needed. If all you have is the column shift it is still a cable adjustment. Set the emergency brake, drop the shifter to low 1 and adjust the cable linkage by loosening it on the transmission and manually move it all the way to low 1 then tighten it down then move the shifter to park and repeat teh adjustment process to verify that it is properly aligned. Lock the linkage back down and see if the vehicle will start, if it doesn't move the shifter to neutral and try to start the vehicle if the vehicle starts then check the column shift safety switch at the park position to make sure it is still in place and working. Typically, if the vehicle won't start in Park or Neutral it is more likely to be the Transmission neutral safety switch.
