My Honda Accord 1991 starts but turns off, I have no spark to the distributor? It either starts suddenly or doesn't at all.

Put a new distributor unit and still it wouldn't start. The car doesn't give spark to sparkplug cable.

SOURCE: honda accord 1996 v6 2.7 liter, rpm gage jump up and down

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve, they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

SOURCE: 1995 Honda Accord will not start

First you must check to see what missing. You must have spark at the pugs and gas at the injector for this car to start. See whats missing and get back to me. The 1995 Honda Accord has a history of bad distributor. If there is no spark at the spark plugs replace distributor. However on some models the coil is separate and not in the distributor, if so make sure the coil is working.

SOURCE: 1995 honda accord v6 tack jumps sometimes, but sometimes fine.

It is what you call hunting. Carb or throttle body injection?. more than likely TBI. Could be the throttle position sensor,The mass air flow sensor, fuel pressure regulator. have the fuel pressure ck'd first.. then the throttle position sensor. then the maf sensor. Have the maf sensor cleaned, They are very expensive. Make sure the air cleaner is clean, clean. it and the maf work together. - good luck, Ned

SOURCE: 1991 honda accord get gas, spark, timing rihgt and

Is there any reason that you have not checked the valve lash on the engine? It's really quite simple and if you have misadjusted intake valves the car will never start. Not to mention with while adjusting valves you will have to double check crank and cam timing twice (once at cylinder 1 adjust and once at cylinder 4 adjust)at the same time you will also be abble to watch dist.rotation and again be able to see that the dist rotor is in the correct firing position in junction with cam timing.ANYTIME a honda or acura has belt replaced you will check valve clearances,it changes with different belt tention on end of camshaft. when distributor was replaced was ignitor unit replaced, and coil (both inside dist. housing)replaced at this time?Hondas and Acuras both are notorious for failed ignitors and coils.(intermitantly even)this can result intermitant spark(either of the two) or weak spark when failing coil is problem. you may have spark but how hot is it?And last but not least ,most affordable but extremely coomon mistake...do not ever replace spark plugs on honda with anything but NGK spark plugs,if you use bosch ,bosch platinums you "WILL" see running problems and or no start!!!!!splitfire plugs will be destroyed within weeks in a Honda! And use nothing but a Honda Distributor Rotor. T.E.C is manufacturer of Honda cap & Rotors. You may be thinking to yourself how silly and anal i am about those things but i can say i have seen hundreds of civics, integras, preludes, with no starts, poor performance, etc, with customers"just replaced plugs, cap and rotor, they should be good they were expensive bill at checker said they were the best".hundreds of dollars later and driving out with NGK plugs and honda cap and rotor, lesson learned

1991 honda accord will not start, it's getting fuel and spark but will not start

Could be a weak coil or bad ignition module located in the distributor. I would replace the coil if you have not ever done so then the ignition module. The coils last about 150k miles and then can go anytime after that. I've owned four 90's Hondas and they have all had this problem. If neither of those things work then you may have a bad distributor.

My 1991 Honda Accord turns over but wont start what could the problem be

Does it have spark? If not, 90% sure it's a distributor. I still to this day keep a spare D, B, and F series distributor in the trunk of my car to bail out all my Honda buddies when their "dizzy" drops out. Usually, it's one of the three pickup sensors in the distributor that goes dead. Start by checking for good, clean, spark. If you have good spark, go to fuel, then compression. But with as often as the Dizzy goes dead at this cars age, start there...

Could the throttle position sensor cause a 91 accord to shut down

A faulty throttle position sensor can cause all kinds of drivability problems on all kinds of different vehicles. However, if I was driving a 1991 Honda Accord and the engine suddenly shut down like somebody turned the key off, the first thig I would do is check for spark at the spark plugs. If there was no spark, I would replace the distributor, since this is what causes this about 90% of the time on those vehicles.

91 honda accord wont crank

There is a sensor under the left hand side of the dash that would not allow it to start, provided that you have replaced the electronic spark module inside the distributor first, which is what it sounds like it would be, When you say you replaced the distributor I assume you replaced it complete!

1991 Honda Accord, Automatic. Vehicle started

It sounds like your spark plugs or leads are not working.

When did you last have them changed? Spark plugs should be replaced every 20,000kms (12500miles) and the leads about every 60,000 kms (40,000 miles).

If there is any problem with these your car will not run smoothly while under load.

Also you should check your distributor cap and see if it is cracked or if there is any carbon build up on the inside of the pins.

the distributor cap should come off with 4 10 mil bolts and should be located to the left of the engine block.

Undo the 4 bolts and pull the cap off (make sure you have disconnected the leads (and checked which order they are plugged in - they need to go back on the same way). Check the 4 pins on the inside - if there is carbon build up on the pins get a flathead screw driver (or a knife) and scrap away the carbon and a bit of the end finish on the pins. Put it all back together and check how the car runs.

1991 Honda Accord -- was driving it when engine suddenly stopped running -- there is power to the coil but no spark -- replaced distributor cap with new one -- still no spark

Tried replacing the ignition module with two different ones from a salvage yard. (Most of the distributors in the salvage yard were either missing completely or the ignition module had been removed - must be a very common problem.) Neither one worked.

Purchased a used complete distributor assembly w/warrantee and replaced the one that did not work. Car started immediately.

Suggestion: If one cannot wait for delivery of a new distributor as I could not, (I located one on line for $126.00 w/warrantee) purchase one from a salvage yard w/warrantee, then get a new one if you are going to be concerned about the longevity of the replacement distributor.

I have no spark on a 1991 honda accord wuts wrong?

It is one of two things, First pull the distributor cap off and make sure the rotor is turning when you cranck the starter. If not turning, then you need a timing belt. If it's turning then you need a module in the distributor(cheaper to buy a complete used distributor ).
