How can I re-initialize and get the auto up/down working again on my Expedition driver window?

I replaced the window regulator mechanism on my 2009 Ford Expedition EL. Original motor still good. The stranded cable went bad. The window works up & down now, but I have lost the one-touch auto function. I have tried several times to de-initialize and re-initialize it, but the Auto feature will not work. I have to hold down the button to raise or lower the glass. I have used an initialization procedure for a 2008 Expedition and a 2005 Expedition. Neither will get my Auto feature back. There may be a different procedure for my 2009.

SOURCE: Front passenger window does not work

sounds like bad regulator, pull your door panel apart and it is the part that goes onto the motor. long bow shaped thing with cable attached. pop out rivets, (I think 3 rivets) and on the upper side there are 2 nuts that have to be removed. then wiggle it around till you can get it out of the biggest hole in door. Good Luck.

But in the meantime, there are only two ways to get the glass up:
Disconnect it form the window regulator and tape and block it in the up position, OR cut the cables to the window regulator and block it in the up position. If you cut the cables, you'll have to replace the regulator.

Master window switch windows ford expedition

I am replacing the The entire switch unit on the LH driver,s side. The part costs 43.00 at Mach 5 auto. Initially, I took it apart , filed down the contacts and put it back together. This didn't work well. The parts are too small. Before replacing part, pop out the switch panel area. You may see some grime build- up, that can be cleaned off. Often times this is all you need to do.

Window cable broke so window does not go up and down

The window regulator cable on a Ford Expedition is part of the regulator assembly and is not serviceable separately. Therefore, if your Expedition's window regulator cable incurs damage, you'll need to replace the entire regulator. The cable moves the regulator up or down in response to the window motor. If the cable malfunctions, you won't have command of your Expedition's power window until you replace the regulator. If you have basic auto-repair skills and an hour of free time, you can replace your Expedition's window regulator. Pry the window switch bezel out of the Expedition's door panel using your trim tool. Disconnect the switch from the door harness by hand and set the switch/bezel assembly aside.

  • 2 Remove the hex head screws from the door panel using the Phillips screwdriver. Depending on the year of your Expedition, you may need to remove a trim cover from behind the inner door handle with the trim tool to expose that screw.
  • 3 Lift the door panel up and off the door by hand. If your Expedition has a courtesy light in the lower-trailing edge of the panel, disconnect that light from the door wiring harness before moving the panel away from the door.
  • 4 Push the Expedition's window to the top of the window frame by hand. Tape the glass to the top of the door with packing tape to prevent it from dropping back down.
  • 5 Remove the window regulator mounting bolts with the socket set. Unbolt the regulator from the window glass with the socket set. Pull the old regulator out of the Expedition's door by hand.
  • 6 Set the new window regulator into the Expedition's door by hand. Bolt it in place with the socket set.
  • 7 Reinstall the Expedition's door panel in reverse of how you removed it.

Replaced passenger side door glass. When you use

What you need to do to initialize the window is remove the window motor from the regulator. Plug it into the car by itself, then press up on the switch until it turns four times. Then hold the switch down for four turns, then put motor back into the regulator, and assemble back into the door. to make sure the motor spins correctly four times I make a tooth on the gear with a marker.
