If you are asking its purpose: it is to let you know whether or not the passenger seat frontal bag is deployed to trigger in case of a collision. Frontal/face-directed airbags have no reason or need to "fire" in the case of an empty seat; and every reason, safety-wise, not to fire into a seat occcupied by a child (a person below a minimal, safety related threshold passenter weight...lest the impact injure or kill). That is why children and similarly vulnerable smaller/frailer people belong behind the front seatbacks in a rear seat if present.
On the other hand, if the driver (who for obvious reason does not merit his own light) notices that the "air bag off" indicator in front of the passenger seat does not extinguish (or "bag on" light does not activate) when an adult comes aboard...that is an indication to driver and passenger alike that the bag might not fire in the event of a collision.
Everything said above also applies to parcels placed in the front passenger seat...a practice that has largely been superseded by trunk and backseat placement of parcels (placement of anything on the so-called "package deck" (Ford's term for rear window ledge) being "not" recommended).
For readers with owner manuals, this info is explained for their particular vehicle models.

get this checked out asap. This indicates the air bag system has a problem, and may not deploy in the event of an accident. Did you just purchase the car w/ this problem, or have u had it a while? I ask, because if u purchased it w/ the blinking light, it could indicate the car was in an accident, the air bag deployed, and it wasn't replaced when repairs were made. That's the worse case scenario, get it checked, hopefully it's something not that serious. Let me know how u make out Curt

the car needs to be scanned for the codes in the computer that control the air bag system, body codes. if you can get this info get back to me. you need someone with a professional scanner to get these codes, when you get them get back to me and we'll go from there. please rate my fix as i strive to be the best, please don't leave negative feedback, just get back to me Thanks Ray

There is nothing in the wiring diagram that would cause the pump not to run because of a wreck. The pump is powered by a relay and a fuse, the relay is activated by the computer.
If the pump relay is not getting a ground signal from the computer the computer may have to be flashed with a scanner.
