SOURCE: engine light came on and then car wouldnt start

Disconnect your battery terminals before you start.With this code it is telling you that there is no signal from the camshaft position sensor to the Electronic Control Module.By changing this sensor you can take care of the check engine light and your starting problem.The sensor is located on the drivers side at the end of the cylinder head.You might have to move some wires out of your way to get to the bolts.Take the bolts out and remove the cover.Now in order to get the sensor out you have to take the torx screw to get it out.Its not to bad to do if you take your time.

2003 sebring 2.4l ck engin light on code po340 can you help

P0340 - Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction

This indicates that a problem was detected in the camshaft position sensor circuit. Since it says circuit, that means the problem could lie in any part of the circuit - the sensor itself, the wiring, or the PCM. Don't just replace the CPS (camshaft position sensor) and think that will definitely fix it.

Symptoms can include:
* Hard starting or no start
* Rough running / misfiring
* Loss of engine power

Causes: A code P0340 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
* a wire or connector in the circuit could be grounded/shorted/broken
* the camshaft position sensor may have failed
* the PCM may have failed
* there exists an open circuit
* the crankshaft position sensor may have failed

Possible Solutions: With a P0340 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:
* Visually inspect all the wiring and connectors in the circuit
* Check for continuity in the circuit wiring
* Check the operation (voltage) of the camshaft position sensor
* Replace the camshaft position sensor as required
* Check the crankshaft position circuit as well
* Replace circuit wiring and/or connectors as required
* Diagnose/replace the PCM as required

Test it and keep us updated.

1998 Ford ZX2 has error code 1383 and 340. Is this the cam sensor? SWPSmith This is the Zetec engine.

Hi Swpsmith,
The code P0340 is for the camshaft sensor circuit. P1383 is for the variable cam timing,the actuator on the exhaust cam.
Do you need information on diagnosing the codes? If you do,let me know what kind of test equipment you have available. Do you have a scanner that will show operating data along with codes? Or a Digital volt,ohm meter?
I hope this helps.If you need anything else,drop me a line. Thanks,Chuck

Code PO340

P0340 is a Crankshaft Position Sensor error. It determines firing order and is most likely the cause of your problem. It's mounted near the oil filter on the engine block. Below is a picture of how it appears in your car. Best of luck.

I have a 2000 chrysler concorde that the engine light just popped on - the error codes are po302, po420, po340

P0302-cylinder #2 misfire detected
P0420- catalyst efficiency below threshold bank 1
P0340-No cam signal at PCM.
The Cam sensor most likely needs to be replaced first. Clear the codes after that and drive and see what comes back on.
