Hello,Your car probably has the 4.6 northstar engine.This (phantom stall) condition is usally caused by 1 or both of the Crankshaft position sensors.I have seen this condition quite frequently on your perticular car.I would replace both of the crank sensors and that should do the trick.you might want to take it to a repair shop due the location of the sensors (front lower part of engine near oil filter) Good luck.

Do this frist and then if the miss is still there have the spark plugs and plug wires replaced. This problem
is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and
throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use
carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC
chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is
running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the
speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and
blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the
negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

I think I had the some problem as you and it turned out to be my gas tank. It has plastic baffles and over time little pieces have broken off. And as you drive those little pieces clog up your screen and choke off the engine.
