You usually have most lights on before starting, goes off when engine and alternator kicks in.

SOURCE: 2006 Subaru Outback: all of a sudden, the cruis

Hello, whenever the check engine light comes on the cruse light will flash as well, that is normal. The check engine light will not come on if fluid levels are low or if the temp is getting to high, I am pleased to know that you checked all of the fluids, most wouldn't have even the slightest thought to even try checking them. The On Board Diagnostics or OBD-2 for short only sets a check engine light when the ECM or Electronic Control Module reads a sensor value either too high or too low, but it has to read that same fault 3 consecutive times in a row to turn on the check engine light (w/ flashing cruise). Otherwise your check engine light would be going on and off all the time. I would go to your local parts store and have them check the codes for free because a dealer will have to charge you labor for them to check due to the knowledge needed to use the highly sophisticated scan tool they use. That way you can go either to an independent shop or a dealer with what the other scanner says is wrong which cuts down on the cost of repairs. They will probably ask you if you fueled up just before the engine light came on, in which that would be code P0440:EVAP leak(very small leak), that means the fuel tank sensor doesn't like how you put the fuel cap on. Subaru recommends AT LEAST 3 clicks when tightening your fuel cap. But until that code is checked you won't know whats wrong, if nothing went boom or bang you'll probably be ok. If it does end up being a fuel cap leak, then just loosen the cap put it back on and just make 1 full revolution, and just keep driving it. The light will go off within 3 full warm up cool down cycles or (drive cycles). I hope this info helps...(subyguru)...

SOURCE: ABS Light and Check Engine Light on, Cruise light flashing

I had this occur on my 2007 Subaru Tribeca. ABS, Traction Control, Check Engine lights were solid, Cruise Control light was blinking and "Er SS" (commonly misread as Er 55) displayed on Trip Odometer. All lights were cleared after 10 or so miles. It appears this is a Speed Sensor (SS) reading error whereby the computer notices an irregularity with the readings taken from the four wheels. Most often it is a temporary and harmless glitch and sometimes a result of debris that is impeding the sensor's reading at one of the wheels.

SOURCE: We were driving on the interstate about 70 mph

I have owned five Subarus and this is a problem I that have never seen before. When your TCS light comes on, it disables cruise control, so that part should not worry you.

Since your TCS and check engine light came on together, I suspect the "problem" was with the transmission. It sounds like a one-time "fluke".

You can go to any good auto parts store and ask to borrow their ECM analyzer.... it is a "box" that wil talk to your Tribeca's computer and let you know exactly what the problem is. You connect it to the jack by the drivers side left knee, then turn the key on (but do not start). Follow the directions on the screen and it will give you a readout of what problems it sees.

Copy down the displayed information in case you need it.... The code number(s) and description(s) can be very helpful.

Follow the on-screen instructions and clear (erase) the problems. Turn off your car, disconnect the box, and after you return it drive home and see if the lights come back. You may have had a "freak" occurance, and that is what I am hoping happened... you hit a pothole or bump just right and the computer lost its mind for just a second....

If it gives you any peace of mind.... the 3.0 H-6 Subaru engine is the absolutely most solid, best performing engine I have ever experienced in a car.. Mine was a 2001 LL Bean Limited and I LOVED IT! My big mistake was giving it to one of my children.... but that story is best left to a blog and not this forum!!!

Good Luck!

SOURCE: Why would engine light, cruise control and abs light come on?

hello,do post your DTC'S,(diagnostic trouble codes) and may be i can help.many modern vehicles spring up a multitude of warning icon's on the dashboard, much to the alarm of it's owner, however, often it can be as simple as a dirty wheel speed sensor, which fails to provide the necessary information to the main (ABS/TRACTION control unit) and so then will inhibit the cruise control,as naturally it's unable to ascertain road wheel speed, and also throw up the engine management light,as the braking/traction control systems unable to supply correct information to the main engine computer(ECU,OR PCM) electronic control unit/power control module. hope this helps, but please supply any further information that you can, regarding your DTC'S, that are read out,try to get a full print off,if at all possible, cheers.

Check engine light, cruise control light flashing,

Take the car to Autozone or similar business for a free code read with a scanner. Depending on what turns up, they will be happy to sell you any needed parts.

CEL, flashing cruise control and vehicle dynamics controll OFF lights on Subaru Tribeca

It is safe to drive your car. What happened was you have a Check engine light on indicating a problem with the emission diagnostic system. This also makes your cruise not work, and the light to blink. Take your car to your dealer at your convienence and have them diagnose it.
