Does DVD player only work with remote? - 2006 Mazda MPV

To pair a Samsung remote model AK5900104R2A with a Philips DVD player model 714821 2001, you will need to first locate the Philips DVD player's remote code. You can find this code in the instruction manual, or by contacting Philips customer service. Once you have the code, press the "Setup" button on the Samsung remote and enter the Philips DVD player's remote code. If the code is accepted, the Samsung remote should now be paired with the Philips DVD player.

Most units are inside the console. Some are built with the screen. Being an 03, I would bet it doesn't work anyway.

Is it possible that it is not getting power?
Check fuses and also you could use a voltmeter to see if there is power.

Did you ever get an answer? I have the same problem on my 2007. The dealer told me it's a design flaw and that's how it's supposed to work.
