Could be the speedo head the transducer is in the gear box or if it has a cable remove cable and grease.

SOURCE: Where is the selenoid on a 1992 olds 88, and is it

Hi there,

Not difficult at all,

Two bolts for the starter
Two nuts for the starter wires
Two screws for the solenoid

The actual process is a bit more complicated, but only marginally. I was trying to give you the complexity level you requested

Best regards
Mike

SPEEDOMETER QUIT

You may need another speedometer. The speed sensor sends a signal to both the speedo and the odometer. So if the sensor fails, both meters would stop working.
The speedo gets power from the same circuit as the warning lights.

Speedometer bounces from current speed down to zero (where it sometimes sticks)

It won't be a cable, as it's impossible for a cable driven speedo to perform this way.
It's an electronic speedo.

Check and/or replace the speedo sensor in the gearbox housing.

check speedo cable for tightness at both ends,1 on trans 1 back of dash.if tight replace the cable, they can bind or strstch in liner causing speedo bounce.

Replacing speedometer cable

I do not believe there is a speedometer cable in a 1992 Olds. I think that you have a speed sensor that transmits to the speedometer via two wires. The speed sensor is mounted near the drive shaft where two magnets transmit rotation speed to the sensor. How do I find and replace the speedometer cable? It is intermitently working. The speedometer needle tends to "bounce" around a lot.

You may not have a cable on that van...it is most likely electronically controlled...have your vehicle speed sensor checked out,,,,if its good you may have a bad speedo

1995 honda accord speedometer and odometer not working

Sounds like either your speedometer cable, your nylon gear on the side of the tranny where the cable ties in, or the odometer itself is shot. One of those three will set you straight. If you are able, remove the cluster, take the cable off the back, and pull it out of the sheath. You will see if its broken or not from there. If not, slide it back into the sheath, then you have to find out where the sheath meets the tranny, and pull it off of there. Then, you can get someone else to watch the speedo as you turn the cable from the bottom. If it works, great, if not, then its your cluster/odometer/speedo. If it does work, the small gear in the transmission is shot.

Speedometer runs erratic and transmissions drops to second gear.

The ECM or TCM may be the culprit, its also possible that a ground wire is no longer grounded or partially grounded giving you the erratic speedometer.
