Hello there,
lightning strike indicates an electrical fault. You should get an error message on the monitor (ODM) which will probably say 'fuse 1'. A common fault that causes this is water on the passenger fuse block which is on the left of the footwell, behind a cover. It is quite common to have to re-solder some of connections (there is a great video on YouTube on how to do it) If the lightning symbol comes up when you turn a corner then it is probably is water contamination.

What is a strike-valley?

First, you have to know what a strike is. Picture a flat rock laying on the level ground. Tilt it. The strike is the direction of the rock related to the level ground. The small angle between the rock and the level ground is called the dip.

Now, rocks are often in layers. When that layer is at a tilt to the horizontal plane, that is a strike. It is a tilt but it is underground in this image.

Now, go back up to the first description of strike, the rock tilted against the flat earth. If you had a mirror image of it on the other side, it would form a V. If earth were piled underneath the wings of that V, and each wing was hundred of feet high, you would be looking at a strike valley. The sides of such a valley are layers of rock tilted at an angle to the horizontal (flat) earth. Geologist describe the valley as being parallel to the strike.

We had a tree struck by lightning last night. Now, our truck and sports car, parked 10 feet away, are both showing problems with charging system, (truck) and ABS, tracking system, and active handling...

Yes. Although the tires are suppose to insulate, there is enough humidity to allow the air to carry a charge. The ECM for example, can be interfered with by Radio frequencies. A lightning strike produces all kinds of freqencies beyond visible light.

You should document the tree strike and park your vehicles back into their spots if you do not already have photos of the tree damage showing the vehicles in the foreground or background.

This is comprehensive coverage with hidden damage discovered within a recent timeframe of the original event.

The brakes light won't go off. Ford Escort ZX2 2001

either replace brake light switch or check on the brake pedal arm for a 1/2 diameter blue rubber brake light switch bumper pad. The brake switch is normally closed which means when you push the on brake pedal the switch makes and power is applied through the switch to the lights. When the brake pedal is released the switch actuator strikes the rubber bumper and opens the switch contacts. If the bumper is missing the switch will not open to break the power circuit to the lights.

2. ADJUST HEADLIGHT AIM ONLY

(a) Place the vehicle in the following conditions.

The area around the headlight is not deformed.

The vehicle is parked on a level surface.

Tire inflation pressure is the specified value.

A driver is in the driver's seat and the vehicle is in a state ready for driving (with a tank full).

The vehicle has been bounced several times.

(b) Check the headlight aiming.

(1) Prepare a thick white paper.

(2) Stand the paper perpendicular to the ground at the position 3 m (9.84 ft) away from the headlights

bulb center.

(3) Ensure that the center line of the vehicle and the paper face forms a 90-degree angle as shown

in the illustration.

(4) Draw a horizontal line (H line) on the paper, showing where the headlights should strike.

(5) Draw a vertical line (V line) at the position where the extended center line of the vehicle strikes.

(6) Draw 2 vertical lines (by connecting the low and high beam center marks) to where the both headlights

should strike (V RH and V LH lines).

(7) Draw a horizontal line (by connecting the both low beam center marks) at the position where the

headlights should strike (H RH and H LH lines).

HINT:

The H RH and H LH line is 0.4Ā° below the horizontal line (H line) of the light axis.

(8) Start the engine.

(9) Turn the headlights ON.

(10) Check that the headlights properly strike the position shown in the illustration.

Whenever lightening strikes , my battery light comes on and also my power steering goes hard on 98 ford taurus SW

Hi:
I don't know about the lightning striking, but I am guessing that you have either a bad alternator, or bad belt tensioner on your engine. I would start with examining the belt and tensioner, then remove the alternator and have it tested for free at a local parts store.

Dome light stays on after I start the car and after I close the door. The problem is with the drivers door. I am not sure where the switch is or how to lube it.

The switch is built into the door latch mechanism. The fix is easy, REALLY! Look on your door for the latch mechanism (it lools like a "c" shaped metal peice that will strike the door post on the frame when the door is shut) Get a can of WD40 and spray this whole area and the inside of this area THOROUGHLY. I really mean soak it. Open and close the door a few times and your light should work fine! Repeat this about every six months to keep it that way. (Do the other door now, too)
