This means there is a problem if it continuosly flashes
Short-circuit terminal 8 of the self-diagnostic
connector to GND to display the trouble code on the
CHECK lamp.
If no trouble codes exist, code “12” is displayed continuously.
If trouble codes exist, code “12” is displayed three times, and then other trouble codes, starting from the smaller code number, these are displayed three times respectively.

this is located behind right front centre console side trim..

    what do i do? the light is there but i went to 3 different scan folks and the truck checks fine; no codes. is there a rset button or something?

Can you be more specific on the location of this connector? I have a 2001 4WD Trooper, and cannot find this connector. Is it just hanging loose somewhere under the dash?

Have a local shop or auto parts store perform a "Fault Scan" - Most good auto parts stores will do it for you for FREE. They read the codes, print out what is wrong and reset your lights.

SOURCE: 4X4 green inidcator light flashes and ABS light

Hi, you will probably have to take to mitsubishi dealer and have them scan diagnostics....but sounds like the o ring has busted in transfer case. will it shift in and out of 4wheel drive? If not don't drive it...it will cause alot of damage.

Why is my od panel flashing green on back wheels
Have your owners handbook? The TOD system is explained in that and may offer an answer. Its a traction on demand system (TOD) and will have sensors and switches. I believe it runs the back axle at normal conditions but switches to both axles when traction is low or lost. If you haven't a handbook you might find one online for down load or just to read or it would be in a manual like haynes or chiltons.

Tod system on 98 bighorn check light and rear wheels flashing on dash when ingnition on and stays on not pulling front diff out of ingagement vsv are ok and work no power at them but have earth on both so...
check out detent limit switches on gear box and transfer case for continuity and open circuit when pressed(on /off switch) these are feed back signals to indicate it has locked into 4x4 or 2x4, if one of these dont work properly system locks up and wont do anything any more. also check front one on diff near actuator, common problem. check actuator is working properly when vacuum applied and removed. can remove this and bench test unit,some oil will be lost when removed for bench test and you can check colar inside diff slides back and forth to lock axle.

On my 1999 Trooper TOD is flashing and the red Check light is flashing. We just had a large amount of snow and I used the 4 Low to get out. That is when this started..
I am not sure what the problem is, but I do know if the check engine light is red, and flashing it indicates that whatever the problem is it's DOING DAMAGE. I don't recommend starting this vehicle until the problem is solved.

Indicator for 4x4 wont stay lit
that is why the light flashes and goes off, it times out, the transfer case actuator motor has most likely failed or there is damage to the wiring to the transfer case, go under the truck and chack for wiring damage at transfer case which is at reat of the transmission.

We have a 1998 Trooper that had the same problem. The fix was an electronic switch for the 4WD - a vacuum sensor - on the front axle that just plugs in. You can see it - if you look under the car from the front, it's mounted in the middle of the front axle. It cost $175 from the dealer. We had somebody install it for $50. Don't know where you live, but they are exposed and can corrode. That's what happened to ours. Good luck - hope it's the same problem. This was an easy fix, and we were pleased.
