SOURCE: Blower motor has only low speed

You may need to get the correct resistor, as they are designed to only allow so much amperage to go through them. If it is getting very hot it is runnig to many amps through it. It will eventually blow and you will need to replace it anyway.

SOURCE: In 2002 Toyota Echo, I need to replace blower

blower switch is your fan knob on dash. resistors are located under pass side dash next to blower motor. on alot of cars the blower will work on high speed and not the lower ones- this is a tell tale way to tell the resistor is no good. if this happens again after replacing resistor- ive seen the blower motor shorting out causing the resistor to go bad- then you would have to replace both.(this usually dosnt happen, most often the resistor alone fixes the problem..

SOURCE: how do you replace the blower motor resistor in a

The resistor pack is almost always close to the blower. It needs air moving across it to keep it cool. It is usually installed into the duct with two small screws. It has a connector with about 5 -6 wires, and is about 3/4 inch wide, and about 3-4 inches long. Some can be a little difficult to get out due to clearance, and their shape.

Also, it could be the fan speed switch that's giving you problems.

My defroster, heater and air conditioner doesn't work in my 2001 toyota echo no air comes out when I turn either one on help please

Try all fan speed settings to determine if you have air flow on any (particularly High speed). I don't know the specifics of your Echo, but typically high speed is a straight-through connection for power to the blower motor.
If high speed works but none of the slower speeds do, the issue is very likely the blower motor resistor or the resistor connector.
If none of the speeds work, there might be a bad fuse for the blower motor or the motor itself might be bad.
If you can hear the blower on all speeds but still no air is coming out the vents, the issue might be either a damaged diverter door that is not properly directing air flow or possibly something got sucked in to the blower motor squirrel cage and is severely restricting air flow. -Rod

The fan speed resistor is the problem........when you are on full speed the current bypasses the resistor and this is what gives you the fastest speed from the fan motor.......on 1, 2, or 3 speed setting, it is directed through the fans speed resistor circuit

It is located in the air box behind the glovebox on the interior of the car passenger side

It still works on high speed because on the high setting the voltage does not go through the resistor.
The resistor is mounted beside the blower motor and is easy to replace.
