Replacing the Power Steering

I'm not quite sure. My brother gave me his 1999 Voyager because he purchased a new car. He believes that there's some problem with the power steering, that it may be either the belt, or the entire power steering. Are either expensive to replace?Thank you,

Is it leaking power steering fluid , or steering won't turn , or what symptoms are you experiencing?

best bet is bring it in for an estimate, could be rack and pinion, could be pump, there the most expensive parts, could be leaking hose or belt.

Belt is cheap. power steering pump is cheap (find a good used one a salvage yard) power steering rack is a bit more expensive and more involved to replace. you really need to know what is bad. make sure the fluid is full first. any noises?

1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager 3.0. Power steering and wipers quit!

As the two systems are not connected in any way, I would call it an odd coincidence. The power steering is a hydraulic mechanical system that routs fluid pressure created by the power steering pump and signals are input from the steering shaft to the rack n pinion. And the wipers are electric mechanical that takes the power from the electric wiper motor controlled from the wiper switch to the wiper transmission which moves the wiper arms.

HOW DO I REPLACE A POWER STEERING PULLY ON A 1999 PLYMOUTH VOYAGER /?

You will need to remove the pump or get the vehicle high enough to get under it.

You will need a power steering pulley-puller (aptly named)

You will also need a bolt to thread into the shaft,. a washer, and a nut on the bolt to reattach the pulley or the tool. Either way is effective.

What kind of power steering fluid goes into chrysler grand voyager

Use ATF Plus (Type 7176) for your particular transmission, NOT Dexron, Mercon, or generic automatic transmission fluid, Chrysler transmissions do not like any other kind and tend to fail quite quickly with the wrong fluid).

Heater quit working. Blower motor works but not blowing warm air.

Hello. Begin by replacing the thermostat. If you don't know how or where it is located, just ask at the auto parts store where you purchase it. Joe

I replaced the power steering pump a week ago. the steering worked great for a few days and then totally quit. there is no power assist at all anymore. suspecting the rebuilt pump failed but looking for...

It wouldn't be the first time. I have seen re-man units that were worse than what was already on the vehicle. One thing many people forget is to flush out the power steering system when replacing the pump in order to remove any possible debris/shrapnel that may be in there to mess up your new pump.

How to loosen pump to get power steering belt off of 1999 Plymouth Voyager

If my memory serves me the power steering pump is driven by the serpintine belt. You'll see a tensioner towards down and towards the back of the engine. You'll need to stick a wrench on it (I believe it's a 14MM) and pull on the wrench to take the tension off to remove the belt. It's a bit tough as your not given much room for a regular wrench (the dealer has a special tool/wrench for this. Also here's the fun part; to remove the pump you'll need to disconnectthe exhaust from the engine. With the van on ramps or jacks you can see where the exhaust bolts to the engine (the exhaust has a flexible pipe here) expect the bolts to break (easy to replace with new gasket)
If you like I have a manual I could scan a page to two and email to you.
I hope this may have assisted you, please let me know.
Best regards,
Tom
