Replacing the Power Steering

As the two systems are not connected in any way, I would call it an odd coincidence. The power steering is a hydraulic mechanical system that routs fluid pressure created by the power steering pump and signals are input from the steering shaft to the rack n pinion. And the wipers are electric mechanical that takes the power from the electric wiper motor controlled from the wiper switch to the wiper transmission which moves the wiper arms.

You will need to remove the pump or get the vehicle high enough to get under it.

You will need a power steering pulley-puller (aptly named)

You will also need a bolt to thread into the shaft,. a washer, and a nut on the bolt to reattach the pulley or the tool. Either way is effective.

Use ATF Plus (Type 7176) for your particular transmission, NOT Dexron, Mercon, or generic automatic transmission fluid, Chrysler transmissions do not like any other kind and tend to fail quite quickly with the wrong fluid).

it most likly is from sitting then ...alot of the time this will go away after abit of driving

It wouldn't be the first time. I have seen re-man units that were worse than what was already on the vehicle. One thing many people forget is to flush out the power steering system when replacing the pump in order to remove any possible debris/shrapnel that may be in there to mess up your new pump.

Have a remote car starter, new battery, but still will not work. Don't know the brand, believe it to be 9 yrs old and probably no longer in business. 66 yr old female

If my memory serves me the power steering pump is driven by the serpintine belt. You'll see a tensioner towards down and towards the back of the engine. You'll need to stick a wrench on it (I believe it's a 14MM) and pull on the wrench to take the tension off to remove the belt. It's a bit tough as your not given much room for a regular wrench (the dealer has a special tool/wrench for this. Also here's the fun part; to remove the pump you'll need to disconnectthe exhaust from the engine. With the van on ramps or jacks you can see where the exhaust bolts to the engine (the exhaust has a flexible pipe here) expect the bolts to break (easy to replace with new gasket)
