Your camshaft sensor is shot. I had the same problem on my 03 coupe. There are two camshaft sensors. They are located on the back side of each cylinder head. My 1st one went out and I replaced it and then the other went out about a week later. The sensors cost roughly $70 each and aren't that difficult to change. Hope this helps.

Would a code po340 cause the transmission problems in a 1996 ford Taurus with a 3.0.

code p0340 in my fault code book refers to cam shaft position sensor a bank 1 circuit malfunction. If you have problems in the transmission and I assume it is an auto have a pressure test done on the unit to determine if a fault exists that is not covered in the cpu reporting system. Check the oil level is on the mark and not low or over full as both will cause problems.

A 2004 Dodge stratus with the 4 cylinder that will not start

code p 16 refers to crankshaft position/cam shaft position bank 1 sensor A--correlation====causes ---wiring---CKP sensor ( crankshaft position sensor )---mechanical fault

code p 0340 refers to -camshaft (CMP) sensor A bank 1 circuit malfunction ===causes wiring--CMP sensor--ECM
cosrs nothing to check the timing belt , just remove the oil filler cap and see if the rockers are moving when turning it over
the clue here may be bewteen the 2 codes , the word correlation and circuit malfunction so check the wiring, harness connections for pin corrosion and then substitute the ECM with a know good unit as the correlarion and circuit malfunction could be in the ECM
if the ECM program is not getting good reports for both sensors then it reasons that the piston and cam shaft are not timed properly and so will not allow it to start

I have a 2000 chrysler concorde that the engine light just popped on - the error codes are po302, po420, po340

P0302-cylinder #2 misfire detected
P0420- catalyst efficiency below threshold bank 1
P0340-No cam signal at PCM.
The Cam sensor most likely needs to be replaced first. Clear the codes after that and drive and see what comes back on.

Error code po340 for a 2002 hyundai elantra

Here is what I could find on your P0340 error code:
CausesA code P0340 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
  • a wire or connector in the circuit could be grounded/shorted/broken
  • the camshaft position sensor may have failed
  • the PCM may have failed
  • there exists an open circuit
  • the crankshaft position sensor may have failed
Possible SolutionsWith a P0340 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:
  • Visually inspect all the wiring and connectors in the circuit
  • Check for continuity in the circuit wiring
  • Check the operation (voltage) of the camshaft position sensor
  • Replace the camshaft position sensor as required
  • Check the crankshaft position circuit as well
  • Replace circuit wiring and/or connectors as required
  • Diagnose/replace the PCM as required
Sounds like since you have replaced both the camshaft and crank shaft sensors you need to look at the PCM.  Go down the line of possible solutions and don't replace the PCM unless nothing else works obviously.  I hope this helps but it looks like you are looking at getting a new PCM.  Good luck.  Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!
