You can bend or stretch the tabs or cable from the gear shift to transmission, some have little round grommets that break apart and effect shifting and starting. Would suggest setting e-brake first then putting car in park on a steep incline.

What kind of problems? Unless the downgrade is practically vertical, I don't see any reason for it to affect the functionality of the vehicle.

How to check the shifting cable on a oldsmobile alero

Well, if you move the gear selector and the transmission goes from park to reverse, neutral, and drive then it is probably good. If you move the gear selector and the transmission does not change then there might be a problem.

Car stuck in park

The two most common reasons for the shifter not moving out of park are, a problem with the brake switch or the shift lock solenoid. Or you may be on a steep hill and have too much pressure on the park gear.
You may be able to turn the key switch to the unlock position and take the transmission out of park before you turn the key to the on position.

Well driving my 2003 oldsmobile alero a light came on the dash (security) what dose this mean

Will the vehicle restart if it is shut off? The security flashing light usually indicates a passlock issue with the key or the passlock.

I had difficulty shifting my from park to reverse while my ny 2003 Lincoln LS was parked on an fairly steep incline? Is that normal?

You should always use your parking brake. Leave your foot on the brake, then apply the parking brake. If you don't,the only thing holding the car, is the mechanical parking pawl in the transmission, and yes, it could break or fail to hold the weight off the vehicle, and it would roll away,as well as damage the trans.
