Why are the dash gages not working in my 2005 pontiac sunfire?

Dash gage tachometer and heat (sometimes the speedometer) are not working. They have wrapped themselves all the way over to the right and are not moving. The car has never been hot and has never exceeded normal operating speeds.

Cooling system might need flushed. About $120 any car service center.

Step two

Is the car over heating if it has 60,000 or more miles you might need a water pump, or might need a thermosat or both. If you are going to flush the system put a water pump and thermosat in it. Removal of water pump and stat are easy just take a picture of it before you do it so you know where everything goes. Scale 1 - 10 I rate it a 4 for being difficult. If you can't do it yourself or some who knows what they are doing you might have to take it to service center which would cost about $300 - $400 dollars.

Sounds like your cooling fans on the radiator are not working. The fans are activated by a thermol switch on the engine or radiator reading the coolant temperature and an A/C switch. When the coolant is too hot the fans should activate cooling the system down. And, when the A/C is on the fans should also activate in order to cool the condensate so the A/C would work.

When you are driving, the movement of the vehicle throught he air is providing enough air flow to keep things cool and functional.

I would check the radiator fan fuse or fuses first. If those are OK I would try to run the fans with 12 volts and a ground that I supply just to see if the fan motor(s) actually run when powered. If the fan don't run when powered then the fans are bad and will need to be replaced. If the fans do run when you power them manually, then something is not allowing the power to activate, like a relay, control unit, or wiring.

It will take a little diagnostics, but it is not too difficult to chase it down.

2008 Pontiac vibe gages do not work, (speedometer, tachometer, odometer, collant/temp. gage, AC?)

You need to take it to a qualified repair shop that has a professional type scan tool that can talk with all the computers on the vehicle . They will go into the instrument cluster menue an test for control of the gauges an to see if info from the PCM - engine computer is correct . All the computer's on your vehicle talk with (share) info. on a serial data communication network .

Having trouble viewing speedometer gage at night

You can turn your dimmer up, and make sure you are turning on headlights. Newer cars with new guages makes it easy to forget. You can drive on driving lights and still see dash.

Dash gages do not work.,have checked fuses. Speedometer does not work either

All dash gages, including the speedometer are powered by the same fuse. Since it's intact then the problem is in the wiring loom in the dash - a connection is loose. The dash must be dismantled to access the wiring loom for testing - check every connector and every wire until you find the broken one.

The odometrer, speedometer, gas gage are not working

Has anyone had the dash out? If you take the dash out there is a cable connected to the odometer and the speedometer it is just one cable. And some wires going to the gas gage. Check and make sure the cable is connected all the way. The gas gage may also be disconnected somewhere but there could be different problems that cause the gas gage to be disabled. !Never touch two wires at the same time!

Gages and dash lights

Have you checked the fuses? Look in the owner's manual for the locations... you might have just blown one.

1996 3.1L Pontiac Grand AM all gauges went crazy

sometimes when the battery is too low the gages will go haywire.check you battery terminals for good conductivity and current levels. sounds like a low current problem.computer runs on 12 volts not 11 or 10. low current will give poor performance and bad electrical response.
try that first then look for shorts under the dash ie naked wires or burnt wires.
good luck.
