If you run your Air cond on recirculate always try using an air sanitizer in your return vent. Or switch your A/C to outside air flow for for half an hour and raise the rear of your sunroof panel to vent the stale air do this till the smell dissipates and then close he sunroof and reset the A/C to recirculate if desired.

Why does my ac in my car smell like gas?

Two potential failures come to mind for this issue; a dirty cabin filter or a fuel system leak. Cabin filters catch debris that is suspended in the air before it comes out of the vents. These contaminants build up on the surface of the filter and can produce a foul odor and reduce airflow. If this is the case, the cabin filter simply needs to be replaced in order to resolve the problem. A fuel system leak is another possibility but is a much more serious issue. Fuel that escapes the system will evaporate into the air which can then be drawn into the A/C system via the fresh air intake (located beneath the cowl area, close the the windshield wipers). Although this would cause a foul odor in the cabin, the bigger problem is that flammable liquid is close to a heat source (exhaust) under the hood which is a recipe for disaster. Because this is a potential safety issue, I'd recommend having a trained mechanic inspect for a fuel leak and repair as necessary. Hints for odor of oil coming through vents

The first thing most people should do is get their manual out and find out the location of the "cabin air filter". On many cars, it is behind the glove box. This is a filter that needs changed out from time to time. If you can't find it, drive to an auto shop, ask them to sell you the filter and explain to you how to find it and change it out.
Another thing that can be done for car odor is to clean the leaves off the outside vents near base of windshield, turn on AC, select fresh air (NOT recirculate) set fan at full blast, roll down windows, and spray the outside vents on both sides with Lysol. Scotty Kilmer has a great video on YouTube showing how this is done. "Getting Rid of Stinky Car AC Odors" .https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrVc_FXrbHY

Musty odor coming from AC vents the last 2 days. Is there a filter some where that needs to be changed?

there may be a cabine filter. but if you leave the a/c in max when you leave it overnight, condensation builds and mold can form in the vents. try leave the control in a/c normal or vent. this opens the outside air door and allows fresh air to enter and dry condensation

A foul odor comes into cabin when the air conditioner is turned on in my 03 Lexus ES 300

Your cabin air filter needs replaced and would be best to have an odor elimnator sprayed in the vent system.

It could possibly be the cabin air filter is clogged, especially if it has never been changed. Aside from that it is probably one of the stepper motors that adjust the various vent gates in the air passages under the dash. Although replacing the cabin air filter on this car is fairly easy, comparatively speaking, you do have to remove the glove box in order to do it.

2000 Camry LE bad odor from a/c heater cabin vents

Possible the smell is coming from the bacteria living on your ac evapourator. You can buy a spray for this that you set off inside the vehicle. Follow the instructions on the tin.
