Just came on and book says converter problem what is a converter?

NISSAN D21 OLD.
ENGINE TOLD. 2.4l OR 3 liter. (USA car?)
THE SERVICE MANUAL COVERS ALL THAT.

the other 5 engine there , are not the same
so no engine told.

I recommend in all cases that you buy the service manual real. used.
back in 1990 all are hard bound paper no digital yet and most clones of books are crud. lies and half truths endless. on the web and incomplete.
buy one on ebay used, nothing works better,. used oem books. period.

1. Install the torque converter to the drive plate. When installing the torque converter, be sure to line up the notch in the converter with the projection on the oil pump.
2. Align the marks made during removal and bolt the converter to the drive plate, tightening the bolts to 29-36 ft. lbs. (39-49 Nm) except on the VG30E where the two shortest bolts are tightened to 22-29 ft. lbs. (29-39 Nm).
3. Rotate the engine a few turns to make sure the transmission rotates freely without binding. The engine-to-transmission bolt torque is 29-36 ft. lbs. (39-49 Nm).

How about the exhaust converter-consider that when your
doing your testing

my guess is its a typo, you meant my check engine light is on.
that? RUNNING? and does it run, ok, (other shoe drops)

yes, that means to scan the pCM
the CAT is bad if the PCM tells you its bad. (p042x) means its bad.
(the smog station will fail it for that. or CEL on running)

or if the engine wont start and CAT melted closed, and the back pressure to it is over 2psi. (easy test)
or the vacuum test fails, cranking or idling if it starts at all.
if the vacuum is near zero cranking ,ONE cause is melted cat.
easy tests all, but is guessing....(BAD THAT)
why not post The full symptoms, not just easter egg hunts...and such.
AND NOT post anon, so we can see you do many posts and form full ideas of all problems posted, (continuity of facts)

that lamp is CEL, not Cam. (apples and oranges diffr)
(aka, MIL & SES) See icon is engine shaped?

or did you scan the PCM (good idea for sure)
did you get P03xx errors (called DTC's) and the book says
cam?
please say what object showed you CAM?
we cant guess that. say it please.....

Stop using the car

You have serious cylinder misfires,so severe
you maybe ruining the exhaust converter,thus the smell

I won't write a book on all the causes or fixes,have a
repair shop diagnose

i think it means that the catalyst converter needs either cleaning or replacing because it's not working properly because it's either blocked up or damaged. not sure which side is bank one though. the check engine light may come on for many reasons. first of all check oil level and condition of oil if it's alright the easiest thing to do is check the book that came with the car and see exactly what reasons the engine light comes on for.

The check engine light is on because the computer has detected a fault in the system.It could be a sensor,wiring or bad connection.You have to get the codes read to find out what could be causing the problem.Most parts stores will do this for no fee at all.Hope this helps.Good luck.

If it was P0420 it is most likely a failing converter.It is better to let a mechanic tackle this unless you are good with a torch to replace the converter.just remember that your cat. converter has a 80,000 mile warrenty with GM so you may be able to get it replaced for free.

dearship parts are high.you can buy a factory catalytic converter or universal converter cheaper at auto parts place.they basic the same parts the.dealership has same catalytic converter.they put their price and labor rate charge an hour your pocket book will be empty.i have used universal catalytic converter.had no problem with it.the only difference is universal converter body a little shorter.but has same lengh as factory.if check engine is coming on you cant turn it off .if computer showing you a code.you could have a misfire causing rich exhaust emission.that can ruin a catalytic converter have it scan.dealership charge you about $130.00 .you can have it scan at advance auto or auto zone.to see what pcm code is.it could be oxygen sensor somethinh minor.

read i chiltons repair book if check light flashes it means your catylitic converter is going bad that could be the reason for miss fire.

Is the "Service Engine" light, or the "Change Engine Oil" light? Do you have the service books, or owners books, that came with the car? I had the same problem with the "Change Engine Oil" light.
