Hi i have a vw polo 1996/1997 model 1.4 8 valve i had a oil leak from my oil pressure switch so every time oil got low the oil light would flash so iv had the switch changed 3 times now twice from gsf and once from vw dealers and the light is still staying on. Can anyone shed any light on what it could be? Iv had it checked on a diagnostic machine and nothing is coming up. Its not the oil pump because if it was then the engine would have siezed by now but its running fine and i aint loosing any oil so i cant seem to put my finger on it. All comments are appreciated cheers

Check the terminal connector on the switch could be a break in the wire.

Sounds like and electrical problem in the oil pressure sensor circuit. I wouldn't rebuild the engine just yet. Hook up a mechanical oil pressure gauge and drive the vehicle with the gauge on it so you know exactly what the oil pressure is.

VW 1.6 2002 MODEL CLASSIC POLO OIL LIGHT PROBLEM

Either you have a faulty oil pressure switch or the pick up screen of the oil pump is clogged. I would change the switch first as it's 10 bucks not expensive then go on from there

Car flashing oil sign but level is ok vw polo model 2007 1.4

the oil light flashing and your confirmation of enough oil in the engine means a faulty oil pressure switch or bad connection. Or the oil pressure is dropping which means the oil pump needs to be replaced or the oil pump pick up in the sump needs to be cleaned

Code p0011 bank 1 intake timing position is over advance, oil light flashes/comes on when i take off/slow down or at complete stops

The computer controls the cam timing by using a solenoid valve inside the engine. The valve works by oil pressure.
The code means the computer can not control the valve timing. Usually the valve is faulty or there is a problem with oil pressure.
Since you say the oil pressure light is coming on, I would expect to find a problem with the oil pump or excessive dirt in the engine.
If the oil pressure switch is good, it will turn the light on when the oil pressure drops below 5 psi. And if it is that low, I doubt oil is reaching the valves.

Whats the purpose of an oil pressure switch can it determine weather oil leaks from your grand prix or not?

The oil pressure switch or sending unit is a unit that receives an electrical signal showing what your cars oil pressure is.And yes it does partially does let you know when there is a problem somewhere in the oil system. For example if your filter gets clogged up your oil pressure will go down and then go up when you accelerate. If there was a leak in the system first you would probably see the leak And if the oil pump or oil pump shaft were to break you would have no oil pressure. So you can see the importance of having an oil pressure switch.I feel there are 2 guages that are important to watch are your oil guage and water temp guage they can tell you allot about how your car is operating.

My 96 vw polo developed a large oil leak on the drivers side of the engine around lowest pulley wheel is it the oil seal ?

i dont think its the oil seal check the oil pressure light switch ,i am assuming its a RHD model a the engine pulley would be on this side on a RHD vehicle ,now if its the engine model iam thinking of then the oil switch is at the top of the engine on the cylinder head about 3 inches back from the cam gear wheel ,failing which it could be the head gasket as the oil feed to the head is here as well

Vw polo 1.4 1999 oil light comes on at 3000 revs filter ok oil level ok new oil pump fitted

Had exactly the same problem, completely baffled us until we discovered that the it was the oil pressure switch. We had already replaced it with a new one and then that didnt fix it so we fitted a new oil pump, but as soon as it was revved over 3000 revs the oil light came on. It turns out that there is actually a choice of 2 oil pressure switches for this car (1999 1.4 polo) one works only low pressure (black cap) and is the wrong one, the other works on a higher racio (green cap) its the high pressure one you need. If the oil light was on at tick over or below 3000 revs then its the lower oil pressure switch needed, above 3000 its the higher one. The parts people insisted there was only one, but there is definately a choice of 2 and it fixed ours instantly.
If it was an older model they actually have 2 switches on the car itself and one is a high pressure and one is a low pressure (just incase anyone needed to know)
