Hey! If your 2002 Nissan Xterra attempted to start without the keys in the ignition after replacing the starter, there may be an issue with the electrical system or the starter installation. Here are a few things you can check:
Wiring connections: Double-check the wiring connections on the starter. Ensure that the positive and negative cables are securely attached to the appropriate terminals on the starter. Make sure there are no loose or exposed wires.
Starter solenoid: The starter solenoid is responsible for engaging the starter motor when the ignition key is turned. It's possible that the solenoid is malfunctioning or wired incorrectly. Check the solenoid connections and wiring to ensure they are properly connected and in the correct configuration.
Ignition switch: It's unusual for a vehicle to attempt to start without the keys in the ignition. There could be an issue with the ignition switch or the wiring related to the ignition system. Inspect the ignition switch and its wiring for any signs of damage or loose connections.
Security system: Some vehicles have a security system that can prevent unauthorized starting. If your Xterra is equipped with a security system, ensure that it is not causing the issue. Refer to the vehicle's manual or contact a Nissan dealership for instructions on troubleshooting the security system.
Starter replacement: If all the wiring connections and components appear to be in order, it's possible that the replacement starter is faulty or incompatible with your vehicle. Consider double-checking the specifications of the new starter to ensure it is the correct model for your Xterra.
If you are unsure or uncomfortable with performing these checks yourself, it is recommended to consult a professional mechanic or contact a Nissan dealership for assistance. They will have the expertise and tools necessary to diagnose and resolve the issue with your Xterra's starting system.
To reset the alarm on your Nissan Titan with a Python 7701V alarm system, try the following steps:
Locate the alarm's control module, which is usually located under the dashboard or in the engine compartment. Locate the valet/override switch. Use the valet/override switch to turn off the alarm, which will reset the system. If the above steps do not work, refer to the owner's manual for specific instructions on how to reset the alarm on your particular make and model of vehicle. Note: Some systems may require a code to be entered to reset the alarm, which is usually provided in the owner's manual or can be obtained by contacting the Nissan dealership.
There is no reset button.
The problem could be the anti-theft system which would knock out the injectors and spark to the plugs.
If the security light is staying on, the problem could be the chip in the key.
This is a very general question, but the two main causes for sudden engine no start is the fuel pump reset switch being triggered and the security system. The security system is easy as you just insert key in the door turn both ways then attempt to start the car. The fuel pump reset switch is located either in the trunk area or on the passenger side behind the kick panel.
Once the security system is activated it cannot be deactivated. It shuts down the fuel system. There is a couple ways to turn it off. The Remote unlocking the doors or one of the three disarm switches, located on both front door locks and one at the rear hatch lock. Unfortunately sometimes the front door switches get damaged when the doors are "Slim Jim'd". Usually the rear hatch switch is intact. Simply unlock the doors with the key. Remember that there has to be battery voltage present for the Module to see the switch unlock. (So if you go out to the dead vehicle, unlock the door then jump it. Then alarm will be on till you unlock it with voltage present)
Could be 2 things. One would be the inertia switch. And the other would be the factory alarm system. Does the "SECURITY" or "THEFT" light flash when the key is turned on?
For the inertia switch, you will need to locate the switch and press the button on top of it to reset it. Good luck, hope this is helpfull.
