Battery cables? Sometimes cleaning off the battery cable connectors at the battery posts will not fix the problem. Corrosion can also penetrate the stranded wire and reduce the amount of current the cable can transfer to the connectors. Also, most people never check the other ends of the cables. Check where they bolt to the starter motor and the engine block/vehicle frame etc. Also, some after market accessories or several together can exceed your stock alternator's rated amperage output. Using those accessories will drain the battery even with the engine running especially while other electrical options are in use such as headlights, AC, etc.

Did you clean the battery posts? A dirty connection will cause a loss of charging. If the conections are clean have your battery tested at a local auto parts store.

Did you test the Alternator on or off the truck? It might be a problem with the control system to the Alternator. The regulator need a battery feed to work, It is usually ran through an alternator fuse.

SOURCE: battery light on.

some ford vehicles have an external voltage regulator. when theres more demand for power it gives it. but when theres too much itll lower it so it does not overcharge. at 1600 rpms there is more demand, plugs firing with more fuel in the cyl, if the alt is working properly the regulator could mess up and stop power from the alt. its a cheap fix or tryout...another big problem is ground if the system does not have an adequate ground nothin would work as it should.

SOURCE: Battery indicator after new alternator Audi A4

Take it to an Audi dealer. Could have been a bad alternator, and another bad alternator if they didn't use Audi part. Don't use cheap rebuilt Chinease stuff on your Audi.

I have a 2008 equinox lt n i just bought. A alternater and a new battery. And after a couple of days driving it all the lights on dash comes on and as i'm driving all lights goes off n truck. Slows down n...

the way an alternator works is it has to have what is called a voltage sensing wire, which tells the alternator what level of charge your battery has and how much the alternator needs to put out. If your battery cables are corroded or damaged you can change the battery and alternator every week and the problem will persist. I would start buy checking cables and sensing wire (wire from alternator to battery) and be sure they are free of coorosion and visible damage. if all appears good then do a voltage drop test on battery terminals and cables. also voltage drop test on voltage sensing wire (wire form alternator to battery). this series of test should give you an answer. any further questions feel free to ask.

All of the lights dim when letting off the gas pedal. Is the problem the Battery?

Check the cable connections to the battery. If they are loose or dirty, clean them and tighten them. Check the battery for water while you are at it.

If that is okay, have an auto parts store check your charging system - they do it for free. You could be in the early stages of alternator failure or diode failure.

I had a van that did this for years but was always leery of it.

Battery is probably bad, has a weak cell. It may show full charge, but has no reserve capacity.
Also, even though terminal not loose there may be corrosion under terminals. Loosen and clean with wire brush and re-tighten terminal. Check for loose wires on back of alternator and at starter motor.

Car will start when it is being charged, after charger is removed car still runs, when car is shut off it will not restart

could be battery or alternator. Check voltage at battery with engine running. Should be at least 14 volts. If yes, alternator is working.
After charging, battery voltage should be over 12 volts, with engine off. When starting, battery voltage should not drop a lot. If battery voltage does not drop while trying to start, you may have a bad connection--loose terminals.

I have 97 Wrangler when running to battery gauge will drop to nothing within a second and lights will dim slightly has no problem restarting

Sounds like you either have a loose terminal to the battery, or you have a bad alternator. Usually if you are loosing power while driving it is the alternator cause you are using alot of electricity. Or you can take battery in to get it checked but I dont think it is a battery. Good luck

2001 chevy silverado 1500 v8 battery drain after sits for 1or2day

, do a simple test on the charging system...check battery voltage. should be 12v or better. start engine & check volts at idle, no accessories on. volts should read 13.5 -14v. Turn on all accessories(including headlamps on high) volts should drop slightly but should not creep down. Definitely not below 12.5. If voltage drops lower than 12.5, the regulator (in the alternator) is not working. either change regulator or change entire alternator. Alternator drive belt should have sufficient tension so that alternator cannot be turned easily by hand. If it can, check belt tensioner.

Cutting out in wet weather and No power steering in wet weather?

I sounds by your explanation, that the belt which drives the alternator is slipping when it gets wet.
When this happens the alternator stops charging the battery, and when battery voltage drops the engine cuts out and won't start due to not having enough current to supply electrons as well as starter motor.
Have the belt tension checked, as well as charging output of alternator, should fix it.
