Why is my Plymouth Voyager 1992 Overheating ????

My Voyager overheats and then I get delays in the gear changes. I have no visable leaks and the Engine oil looks ok no signs of white. Once it overheats I then get delays in the gearbox changing. Can anyone help I live in the UK. Many thanks

The radiator cooling fan relay has most likely failed. It is underneath the air cleaner on the frame rail just behind the radiator. NO cooling fan = overheating. This is the first thing i would look at. Best way to tell is when the van gets hot see if the cooling fan is on. You will hear it running if it is coming on. It will set a code for the cooling fan relay also.

SOURCE: how to change oil pump on plymouth grand voyager

go to http://www.autozone.com/autozone/homePage.jsp and sign up, put in your vehicles info and click on repair guides, they have oil pan remove and replace but no guide for the oil pump but its located in the oil pan and usually held on with 2 bolts and a gasket inside the pan, Tough job probably need someone with mechanical experience to help with this.

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. To be honest, someone would need to check the vehicle out more then likely. You need to make sure that you have the correct amount of transmission fluid in your car. Try to see if you are leaking fluid anywhere. When a car overheats, it can mess other things up. I am not saying this is your case, but it is possible that something may have happened. If the fluid is correct, you can try changing the fluid and filter. If that doesn't help, it will need looked at. The gears in the transmission could be faulty, faulty sensors, seals, ect. None the less, it needs taken care of asap. Best wishes. If you do have to take it in, take it to someone you can trust.

My 1992 plymouth voyager 3.3l engine is overheating.i have replaced the cooling temp. sensor and fan relay and the fan itself what could be the problem?

could be a bad radiator, thermostat, not enough antifreeze in coolant, or worse a bad head gasket, just to give you an idea where to check next

Where is the gearbox located on a 1992 plymouth voyager

The gear box in your vehicle is a transaxle which houses the transmission and all final gearing.

Sometimes the pipe that runs under the intake will leak. Can you smell antifreeze burning while you are driving? Another way to tell, is to let the vehicle run with the cap off. IF you get alot of bubbles out of the radiator, you have a cracked head, or a bad head gasket which is also a fairly common problem. It will push the antifreeze out of the radiator, and cause it to overheat.

Overheating engine

About two gallons of water/coolant total. If you have to add coolant then there must be a leak. On the expansion tank is a cold and hot level. Good luck

Over heating

It is very likely that the thermostat is stuck closed. This will prevent the coolant from circulating through the radiator.

It is also possible that your radiator fan is not coming on.
