There may be to much pressure on the steering wheel lock for it to go into the off position. put the parking brake on. put the shifter in neutral gently turn the steering wheel in the opposite direction of where the wheels are pointed and try turning the key to the off position. Good Luck
As with most cars and trucks, if the shifter won't move out of park, one possible cause is a faulty brake switch or shift lock solenoid.
If the RV is on flat ground and the park pawl is not under heavy load, you may be able to shift out of park by unlocking the steering wheel but not turning the key to the on position. Make sure the parking brake is set before you try it.
Hi there,
There is a (silly) safety lock on the ignition to stop it starting in gear, or the key being removed if not in park, and a sensible safety lock on the gear shift to stop kids letting it roll down a hill. Try putting your foot firmly on the brake, press the park release button beside the gear shift, while pulling the shifter out of park and back into park.
Getting the key out: Sometimes the steering wheel is placing pressure on the steering lock and key release mechanism, so try turning the steering wheel in any direction it can go while trying to release the key. It should come only out when you are in park.
The two most common reasons for the shifter not moving out of park are, a problem with the brake switch or the shift lock solenoid. Or you may be on a steep hill and have too much pressure on the park gear. You may be able to turn the key switch to the unlock position and take the transmission out of park before you turn the key to the on position.
I don't think that model requires you to step on the brake pedal to release an electric solenoid, but if it does, you can turn the key switch to the Unlock position and then shift out of park before turning the switch to the on position. The brake switch and the shift lock solenoid would need to be tested. Otherwise, if the car is not parked on a hill and therefore has an excessive amount of load on the park gears, you may have a problem with the linkage or the key lock.
Pull or push the auto transmission gear selector slightly further in each direction from the "park" position. The key can not be removed unless the car is in park. If the gear selector is not in the exact spot needed - the ignition will not move to allow the key to be removed. Likewise, if the car battery is dead, you may not be able to remove the key until you connect to another car with jumper cables to energize the ignition circuits.
try shaking steering wheel from left to right while at the same time turning the key towards the "on" position.if you're parked on a hill, this is not unusuall. it happens at times. you may need to release the parking brake and shake the car backwards and forwards to release the car from park. suggest you enlist a couple volunteers to assist. MAKE SURE YOUR VOLUNTEERS DO NOT STAND IN FRONT OR REAR OF THE CAR AT ANYTIME. rock the car back and forth while turning the key to the on position.this works 90 per cent of the time. sometimes when parking on a hill this happens. in the future when parking on a hill,1st put the emergency brake on,then apply parking brake to insure of this issue. then put the car in park. as a retired tow truck driver i have seen this before.it's not uncommon for the transmission to bind when parked on a hill,or up against a curb, not on a hill. wish you the best of luck,if you need further assistance, please repost your question to fixya.com
will try to assist you.are you parked on a hill? or parked somewhere as to out the transmission in a "bind"? try turning your key switch to the on position and at the same time you're attempting to turn the key to on,wiggle the steering wheel back and forth, like you're turning to left or right. sometimes the steering lock binds when the cars parked on a hill,or parked against a curb.try to turn the steering wheel to the left, while turning the key to "on" some times rocking the car back and forth will free up the locked steering column.while turning the key to the "start" position of course. try this and if this does'nt help you" please repost your question to fixya.com. thank you for seeking out fixya.com we look forward to assisting you in your future automotive,or household questions with appliances,or just about anything.there are experts ready to assist you 24/7
your ignition switch may be going bad. suggest this, turn key to off position, wiggle sterring wheel while removing your key. this won't last long though. you can try not stressing the steering by not parking on a hill,or parking the car where the steerings going to be in a [bind] or it may be only a ignition switch going bad,you can try this 1st though, while you're attempting to turn your key on, turn your steering wheel to right and left gently,if this works, your ignition switch is worn.if you continue to park the car in a bind,[on a hill] [up or down] it will get worse. and you will have to replace the ignition switch.
the gear shifter may not be fully in park also sometimes if the steering wheel is jaming try to move steering wheel and check vehicle is fully in park is key stuck in the on position or can you turn off car or you just cant remove key
