Sounds like excess bearing clearance, when the engine sits overnight the oil between the bearings and the crankshaft is able to run back into the oil pan. When you first start it up it takes a few seconds for the oil pump to fill the spaces back up and you get some clatter.

Yes, it usually is on the expensive side. It might be cheaper to look for another engine out of a wrecked BMW and swap engines.

Depends on the engine, if its a M62, its under the hood, torwards the front drivers side. 9e6fcd7.jpgIf it a N62, it is on the underside of the vehicle, next to the oil drain plug. Its the black plastic housing with a 6mm allen bolt in it(thats used to drain the oil out before removal)25e2e14.png

SOURCE: 2003 BMW 325i will start but making noise

It might be a faulty power steering pump. Try checking the level of the power steering fluid. It is probably best you have your power steering system checked by a mechanic.

Does the noise occur only when the vehicle is moving?

Try moving the steering wheel from side to side, while stationary (but don't do it too often, or you might damage something). If the noise is still present when the car is stationary, then it probably is the power steering system.

If the noise only occurs while the vehicle is moving, it could be a problem with the differential/final drive, or even wheel bearings.

2001 azteck 49000 miles use very little once every

The 3.4L engine has special pistons that are designed to expand as the engine heats up. When the engine is cold, the pistons make a knocking sound that resembles lifter noise or piston slap. As long as the noise goes away after the engine warms up, don't sweat it; this is normal.

I have a 2009 BMW X5 and its making a crackling noise in the engine. When I accelerate it goes away but is present when the vehicle is stopped or at low speeds. Please help

The crackling sound you hear is called pre-ignition. Meaning your either running too cheap a fuel or the engine needs timing reset because timing is too far advanced and causing pre-ignition. That means the spark plugs are firing earlier than they should.

I had a chevy 2002 avalanche,2004 chevy tahoe both after 20,000 miles developed a mild lifter or slight bearing knock. When I confronted chevy with this problem they stated this was normal for the 5.3 liter v8.Being a mechanic myself didnt think this sounded right. My friend has a 2003 gmc yukon and motor sounded same way.I no longer own my chevy,But my friend still has yukon with 150,000 plus miles and yet it still knocks when you start it.this is just a problem with chevys and other gm products.

Engine knocking on and off

inspect the harmonic balancer.
When the crank turns there is a rubber buffer between the pully and crank portions of the balancer that could have let go causing an engine knock like noise.
