Check the clutch reseviour it might b empty if not might be the clutch or gears in transmission
Not sure about your question. It seems your Elantra can shift only to 1st or reverse gear. (Or can't shift to either one.
Considering that 1st or reverse gears are usually shifted in while standing still, any problem within I would suspect a failing clutch mechanism. It coul be from a leakage at the main or auxiliary clutch cylinders (clutch pedal or at transmission housing.
Check clutch fluid level. If low means there may be a leakage.
Next thing to check is shifting links (cables, rods and levers between shifting handle and actual gear box). If worn out at bushings or loose, it will cause shifting problems.
When you put it in reverse, first thing you feel a spring.after tthat you lift,
a security plate, this plate prevent you from going reverse into 1 gear.
cause the axel turn a little further when you allreddy has stop the car.
this takes two sec.thats why when putting it in reverse after you feel the spring you wait two seconds, then puch al the way in reverse.

You need to check the transmission fluid level, if it is low the tranny will not shift. If, however, the fluid is to the proper level then you will need a new transmission.
Try putting new fluid in and look for a leak in the pan gasket, then all you may need is a transmission service. When the service is done the mechanic will look for pieces of metal in the old fluid, if found this is very bad and you will need a new tranny.
You might consider a new or used car, you can definately find a good deal out there!

Does the Check Engine light come ON when this happens? Whenever the "Check Engine" light comes on, there is always a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) stored in the ECM (Engine Control Module). You'll need an OBDII (On-Board-Diagnostics) scanner to retrieve any codes recorded/set in ECM. Once you do this and let us know what, if any codes are set, then we can go from there.
