Disconnected the battery to see if the gauges on the instrument panel would I reset since they stopped working....now the car turns over but won't run .....only for a couple seconds.....what happened.
Either in valet mode or immobilzer kicked in as you removed battery ,,, try turning ignition on and off 10x ,, turn key right round to point just before the car turns over , then back off again ,,,
If the engine fires up for a second or 2 and then cuts out it means that the engine has been immobilised by the immobiliser unit. this could be down too one of the following :
1. the immobiliser unit is faulty
.2. the key has lost its adaption settings to the car. This can sometimes happen, possibly when you disconnected the battery.
3. The ignition key is faulty.
You will need to take it to a VW dealer. they are the only people that will be able to do this kind of work due to the security implications of immobiliser systems. they cannot be by passed because the engine ECU requires a signal from the immobiliser unit confirming the correct key has been used before it will allow the engine to be started.
If it is not a new key fob, it sounds to me like the immobilizer is activated. So, all the lights on the dash are working now? Is there a flashing key on the dash lights? One of the resets that works is put the key fob in, and turn ignition on without starting it, and leave it 15 minutes. And try again.

The front seat buckles have a micro switch in them, you may have to split the plastic off to get t it and then check the wires are not broken and if ok then use electronic contact cleaner and hope it works for you if not the dealer would be glad to sell you the whole assembly
SOURCE: 2002 vw jetta radio panel does not turn on nor the radio works.
Fuse number 42 is for the radio reset. Pull it out and put it back in. It's a warranty problem, expired now no doubt.
SOURCE: The ac in my 95 Jetta just works while the car is cool, then it stop
In addition to what emission wiz says, observe the speed of the fan when you turn on the a/c. some fans, when the are cold they run faster, then they get hot and slow down a lot. Also check that the small belt that drives the second propeller is ok. And for last, check that the front of the radiator is clear of any garbage, like a plastic bag that might have been cought in front of the condenser with the wind. If all this is working properly, there is nothing else that could be happening machanically to this a/c to stop it from cooling. look at the center of the pully of the compresor, make sure the entire thig is spining when clutch engages.
SOURCE: 2002 Jetta TDI radio fuse number?
The Fuse number is..... drum roll..... 42 .... And you don't even have to have a dead battery for the radio to lock up. I have owned my 2002 tdi since New... and about 4 or 5 times a year radio dies. When you remove the fuse... don't immediately put it back in.... The capacitors in the radio have not fully discharged and if you put the fuse right back in.. chances are it will stay locked. I count to 15... then put the fuse back in. Close fuse door.... Operate radio normally till next lock up.... then repeat process. So you won't forget the fuse number... write #42 in the white space of your fuse location sticker that is attached to the inside of the fuse door. Hope this helps... tried to be detailed.
