Why is my 96 crown vic hot and slow?

-takes two turns to start
-a little intermittent slip bertween 1-2
-gets hot in cab, hot under hood, gauges show normal temperature
-humming sound under passenger\'s side floor
-will hit 70, but will drop down to a high speed of 50
-if you floor it, it wont accelerate, just makes a very low noise ive heard be called, \'bogging out\'
-accelerates very slowly when it does,
-sort of \'hiccups\' or \'skips\' sometimes while driving

Sounds like a transmission issue. could be a pump or something as simple as really old fluid. not something your likely to repair at home. and unfortunately check engine lights only come on for emissions related issues so most transmission codes don't set the light to let you know there is an issue. you can go down to local auto parts store and have them pull the codes and se if there are any transmission codes. the getting hot in the cab could be from increased temps from the transmission but from the sounds of it you may not have a prayer for saving the transmission. but don't loose all hope start with getting the codes and see where you are. hope this was helpful.

Testimonial: "Well I've blown trannies before and it is definitely not that, it doesn't slip really hard, it might not even at all. Should've left that out. It has smell. I checked the fluids they're clean as a whistle. I've heard people say catalytic converter and vacuum hose as well."

88 Ford Crown Victoria cranks but won't turn over.

If it 'cranks', it is turning over. It is cranking but not firing or running. It does sound like you ran out of gas. The fuel pump is lubricated and cooled by the gasoline in the tank. You need a fuel pressure gauge and check it is still working efficiently. Also remove the fuel hose at the injectors and make sure all the air is out.

The wires on the starter will get hot with extended cranking as they normally only run for a few seconds.

Why is my crown vic slow and hot?

I would say your exhaust converter is worn out & blocking
the exhaust from getting out & since you continued to wonder ,
verses actually having the car tested, that you now have ruined the transmission

'99 Ford Crown Vic LX: #12 30A Maxi fuse blows seconds after starting or ignition turned on.

i had this problem with my 1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo with the brake lights it kept popping fuses right after the ignition was turned on try putting a higher amp fuse in place of the old one that keeps blowing then check for shorts to the starter and check grounds and wires and also the transmission issue check the fluid and then if the fluid is fine change the transmission filter the filter may have not gotten replaced when the transmission was rebuilt and may be clogged or dirty

Got a 96 crown vic that runs but smoking white smoke from under the hood and it runs hot ....the resevoir is full so there is no leak there and i replaced the thermostat but it didnt work

you ether have a coolant leak or one of these are the problem thermastat, fan clutch, water pump, radiator, try this start car when it reachs normal temp open hood and pinch the top radiator hose if it is hot water is flowing thermastat is good now open radiator with a towel slowly while it is runing see if the water is moving if it is you water pump and radiator are good, now at some point in this time you should have heard the fan get loud if not your fan clutch is not work it mounts to the front of your water pump and is normal to go out because they lose about 250rpm a year which does not give them much of a life, dont forget to check your heater hoses they could be leaking

96 ford crown vic over heating

it seems you have to seperate issues here. fiirst let's start withtthe over heating. you stated that you have replaced the pump, thermosta, fan, clutch, all the hoses, and core. now my question to you is did you route the belt so it's circulating like it should? is it steaming out from under the hood? to be quite honest the vehicle should not even be close to overheating after driving only 3 miles. there is a possibilty that you have a bad sending unit for the temp if it is not steaming out from under the hood. your upper radiator hose is hot this tells you that the thermostat is operating as it should. the fan should be turning clock wise as you are looking at it from the front of the vehicle.when you fill the system with coolant make sure that you have the heater on high and to the hot setting. check to make open sure you have plenty of coolant and that the radiator is free of dirt and bugs.. now as far as not having anyheat in the vehicle check the fuse for your climate control. look under the dash and make sure you hooked all the cables for your fresh air door and blend door. when you changed the core did you connect the hoses in the right place?after you have checked all the hoses and the coolant is as full as can be and the heat is turned on to max ,keep the radiator cap off and start the vehicle wait for it to get hot check the upper radiator hose to see when the thermo stat opens you should see that the coolant should go down in the radaitor. do these things and check back with me on the results...please rate this help...thanks
