Why is my crown vic slow and hot?

-takes two turns to start -takes off very slowly -slipping intermittently between 1st and 2nd -drops out of gear when you floor it, but doesnt accelerate -randomly loses speed at 70, drops to top speed 50 (lots of fun on the highway) -gets hot in the cab, hot under the hood, but gauges dont show overheating -humming sound under passengers side floor -slight smell, could just be me -really low sounding acceleration noise, heard it referred to as "bogging out"

When the car warms up and you have driven it until you start to experience the "problems", park it, leave it running and check under the car and see if your catalytic converter is glowing red. If so you have a clogged catalytic converter. You could check a second time after you turn the car off and see if it is glowing red also or have it tested at a muffler shop. Also check your muffler and your exhaust. Look (car off) and then with the car on check the exhaust to see if it is flowing.

I would say your exhaust converter is worn out & blocking
the exhaust from getting out & since you continued to wonder ,
verses actually having the car tested, that you now have ruined the transmission

SOURCE: 1996 Crown Vic, Valve noise under heavy acceleration

No use what's in there, but have the engine de-carboned by a Ford dealer, or remove the octane adjust shorting bar located near the ignition module (retards timing 2 degrees), this will in most cases cure the issue unless there is allot of carbon in the cylinders. There are also methods of ing this de-carbon procedure at home, check on the internet for tips.

SOURCE: hard shift and blinking overdrive

The blinking overdrive button is telling u that a serious fault has occurred in the electronic controls or a mechanical fault such as excess slippage is occurring.

Why is my 96 crown vic hot and slow?

sounds like a transmission issue. could be a pump or something as simple as really old fluid. not something your likely to repair at home. and unfortunately check engine lights only come on for emissions related issues so most transmission codes don't set the light to let you know there is an issue. you can go down to local auto parts store and have them pull the codes and se if there are any transmission codes. the getting hot in the cab could be from increased temps from the transmission but from the sounds of it you may not have a prayer for saving the transmission. but don't loose all hope start with getting the codes and see where you are. hope this was helpful.

My 98 GMC Jimmy accelerates really slowly but once past 40km/h it takes off fine and handles dropping gears going up hills fine. What would it be? Would it be my torque converter?

Sounds like theres no 1st gear. Have you put the shifter in 1 and seen if it went, if so try 2-3 if it still accelerates slowly its probally stuck in 1st or 2nd gear, when it goes in to the 3 rd gear it will accelerate normally, also in 4th (OverDrive)

98 crown vic transmission slipping

Change the filter and fluid. This car if the transmission is original should have a torque converter drain. Drain the torque converter also,it gets almost all the fluid out of the transmission. Doing this the car will require almost 12 quarts of fluid. Worth a shot. I change mine at 25000 mile intervals.

'99 Ford Crown Vic LX: #12 30A Maxi fuse blows seconds after starting or ignition turned on.

i had this problem with my 1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo with the brake lights it kept popping fuses right after the ignition was turned on try putting a higher amp fuse in place of the old one that keeps blowing then check for shorts to the starter and check grounds and wires and also the transmission issue check the fluid and then if the fluid is fine change the transmission filter the filter may have not gotten replaced when the transmission was rebuilt and may be clogged or dirty
